youngindia Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 how many of these test prospects do Ozs and Saffers play in their ODI and T20 team ? we are not talking of tests here . when push comes to shove (like for the 2015 world cup squad), you will see them there. in a world cup semis or finals, you want performances like shane warne's(1996 and 1999) the elworthy's will only screw you. lot of these players are still prospects ,not yet established players.philander only rose to top this year. the current schedule makes it highly unfeasible to play all three forms year round.

Do India have Dale Steyn and Brett Lee lying around Ranji Trophy? The answer is a definite no. What fraction of bowlers who bowl their pace are of their quality? Very small. Would Glenn Mcgrath walk into an ATG Indian side? Yes. Shaun Pollock? Yes. Richard Hadlee? Yes. Mohammad Asif? Probably. Chaminda Vaas? Yep. Ian Harvey in ODI cricket (the format I am talking about)? Yep. Meaningless examples prove nothing.

I am looking for bowlers who can do well; not discarding proven good performers for someone in a futile search for someone who can be the next all time great - despite clear evidence that they are not that!

Let's take the windies attack of roberts, holding,crofts, garner,marshall,clarke, daniels as the bar. obviously it would be unrealistic to expect to reach that bar from india's current level in the near future. however you take the best of what india has(ishant, yadav and aaron) and take forward steps in a long journey towards that level. this is not the 80's where you load the teams with madan lals and binny's vinay is several steps backward. As bad our pace bowling talent is compared to many countries, we don't have to suffer vinay. The bar should be higher and steps shud be forward.

Getting hammered is one thing, and getting hammered every other game is another. Lee was smacked by Gayle, and on that flat featherbed at Oval and Gayle is destructive form, the only thing Lee could have done was to hold his head and admire the mockery. In the other, Dale Steyn was raw then, it was probably his debut game/series (?), so he was not experienced enough to bowl that well, plus of course he was not opening the bowling, came in in the 13th over when the batsmen were set and there were still a couple of overs of fielding restrictions left.

CG Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Vinay kumar averages 33 in odis with economy of 5.6 ,Our standards have got so low that we think it great as we play Praveen kumar who averages 36. It pains me to see these guys who have no future being given oppurtunities rather than young fast bowlers More so as for the first time we have fast bowlers.Take the world cup for example we played with nehra and munaf they were hammered against sa,eng,aus who play fast bowling well.
