Rate the Test Bowling Attacks

I think the current best to worst looks like this: 1. South Africa - Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Kallis, Tahir/De Lange (great pace attack, Tahir has a way to go, but still not bad for a leggie)glad 2. Pakistan- Rehman, Ghul, Cheema, Ajmal - Servicable pace with excellent spinners 3. England- Anderson, Broad, Finn etc., Swann- Good Pace attack, good spinner 4. West Indies- Roach, Edwards/Rampaul, Sammi, Bishoo- Above par quicks, with ok spninner 5. Australia- Siddle, Harris, Hilfi, Watson, Lyon- Decent quicks, below average spinner 6 New Zeland- Martin. Bracewell, Gillispie, Vitorri, Williamson- Servicable quicks with a servicable spinner 7- India- Khan, Yadav, Kumar (pick one), Sharma/Ojah Outside of Khan, very inexperienced and raw- the third seamer slot is a significant downgrade 8- Bangladesh

1. South Africa 2. England England & SA are clearly the 2 best bowling sides 3. Australia 4. Pakistan Autralia & Pakistan take the next 2 spots. NZ, WI, SL & India are the bottom dwellers.

I would rate England slightly higher than South Africa due to the presence of a spinner. Rest I agree with above.

I am not so sure; i think the SA attack is the only pace attack that can be incisive under all conditions. I dont think the same is true for England.

Australia also have Mitchell Johnson and James Pattinson. Starc and Cummins also show promise. Depth in the lineup puts them past WI and Pak imo

My rating would be something like this. Top 3 1. SA - Very good pace attack with Steyn, Morkel, Philanderer (Back up Pace - Tsosobe and De Lange). Some spin variety with Tahir 2. England - Anderson, Broad, Bresnan (Back Up Pace - Finn and Tremlett), Good Spinner in Swan 3. Australia - Harris, Cummins, Pattinson, Hilfenhaus (Attack with lot of potential and definitely much better than Pakistan) Mediocre Pakistan Bottom Rung India SL NZ WI

there's another test playing country which you should mention i think (although it has a pathetic bowling attack atm).

Need to wait for SA to tour Asia before rating them higher than England. Current England performances in UAE and Sri Lanka suggests that England do hold the edge.

The English attack destroyed the Australian batting in Australia; they bowled Sri Lanka and Pakistan out in every innings on Asian pitches (except the second innings of the first Test in UAE, where their batsmen only gave them 15 runs to "defend") and of course they are excellent in English conditions. Not sure how that translates to not being incisive in all conditions. For what its worth, the South African bowlers couldn't bowl Pakistan out twice in a Test in UAE (though of course their batting was much better than England's shambolic line-up).

Aus have a fantastic pace attack in the making. SA are top quality but there is something missing.

SA pace attack is just too good but they r missing a good spinner.... I wonder why don't they include Botha or RVD in their bowling attack and give them continuous chances

SA the present number one as far as bowling Australia next maybe future number one as far as available talent England dependent on conditions but decent Pakistan, India to me are tied, India is going thru a rough patch but has Ishant, Zak, Umesh, Aaron, Sreesanth, Ashwin, Rahul , need pacers to be fit and gel as a team. SL , WI come next Bangladesh last. INDIA needs to find a decent group of raw and semi experienced bowlers to work with besides the regulars, Suyal, Abu Nechim, Shami, A Ahmed, Shukla,Tyagi, Gony, VRV,should be tried and Irfan should be a regular in all three formats, he is getting good swing , bounce, and bowling around 135, also can bat well. We should choose horses for course, RP, PK should be discarded, VK only for ODI or T20, DINDA SHOULD GET MORE CHANCES .Ishant can be a spear head, Umesh, Aaron, Dinda, Suyal, Tyagi, Gony, VRV, Shami, Sreesanth, Anwar Ahmed, Gony, should be in the coach and selectors plans.

Can somebody explain to me how England are dependent on conditions? Unless suddenly Sri Lanka and UAE have suddenly become greentops. And can somebody also please explain how South Africa are "all conditions" given one has never played there and the other averages in the 40's there. Can somebody also explain how they have the best overall attack given their best spinner is shambolic.
