Until then I seriously the likes of veteran Rajat Bhatia or Paul Valthaty should be carefully watched. Yes they are limited players but you need one utility player in T20. Ideally we are looking for someone who bowls seam and can bat. It will also allow us to bowl 2 specialist spinners in T20. I say no Irfan as his bowling gets smashed. He has one of the worst economy rates in IPL in past and also doesn't take wickets. Yusuf is hit and miss, currently batting poorly in IPL, and his bowling is easy to milk. I see no harm in giving out a few caps tbh.

As bad as Irfan is, he is no worse than other pacers we have and should play even if we go with just 2 pacers. As for DTW calling him out for bad economy, well look at Sreesanth's economy His t20 record for India is 10 matches, 7 wickets@41, ER of 8.5, SR of 29 Overall t20 record- 53 matches, 45 wickets@33, ER of 8.3, SR of 24 Irfan's t20 record for India-17 matches, 17 wickets@26, ER of 8, SR of 19 Overall t20 record- 93 matches, 97 wickets@25, ER of 7.6, SR of 19

Vijay.Sharma Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 As for number 7 spot, my choice is Irfan. More importantly my non-choice is Ravindra Jadeja. But if Jaddu can bat and bowl like he is currently doing for Chennai then I wouldn't grudge him his place. Irfan does get carted around when its not his day. But he has the ability and capability to give back the same treatment with the bat. When it is his day and if there is some moisture in the air then he can pick wickets for us. Irfan is a match winner and I'd prefer him over any other AR in India for the number 7 or even number 8 spot

He can not bat lower down with a good SR, not a no7, couple of his good innings have been hitting substandard spinners. Also you can't have someone at no7 who hasn't crossed 50 once in T20. His bowling is so so in T20.

Pagalpanti Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I hope they play a proper batsman, probably push Gambhir and rest of them a number down and fit in Rahane with Sehwag at top. Anyway Dhoni uses Rohit and Raina, so might as well not pick a bits and pieces player.
Tendya Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Based on form in IPL till now and a few automatic selections, the squad should be: 1.Sehwag 2.Gambhir 3.Kohli 4.Rohit 5.Jadeja 6.Dhoni 7.Raina 8.Irfan 9.Ashwin 10.Rahul Sharma 11.Munaf 12.Rahane 13.Yusuf Pathan 14.Ojha 15.Praveen Kumar/Vinay Kumar/Umesh Yadav Since the matches are in SriLanka, we dont have to play our faast bowlers, play the best trundler we have-Munaf along with an allrounder like Irfan who can bowl 2-3 overs, and let spin do the rest
Dravid_TheWall Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Poor 11-Don't agree with Jaddu in the team, def not 5 at 5, Irfan can't play as a specialist bowler, he is not good enough. Ashwin may have good stats in T20 but in T20I he hasn't done all that-I would rather try Ojha who has done well in his limited chances or Rahul Sharma.
