He is hard to hit. He did get his length wrong in that over. Gayle is a such batsman can bamboozle any bowler. The most brutal hitter of the ball ever to have played cricket, IMHO and remember he is playing with groin injury.

It was just bad over for Sharma. He still has very good IPL if you exclude that over. Rahul Sharma is a must in T20 team, IMO.

Needforspeed Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Gayle has taken almost every bowler apart in some match or other of IPL. They were not all bad bowlers. Rahul's performance till this match was OK.

NareshK Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Rahul Sharma relies on variations and he would be effective against batsmen who have not faced him before. But as he continues to play more cricket, batsmen will get used to him and that's when he has to evolve and come up with new tricks to deceive the batsmen. His accuracy will come in handy but that wont be good enough on flat tracks where there wont be any turn or bounce. Mendis was deadly against all teams when he started out. But after he got sorted out, he became useless and was chucked out of the team. Ashwin also relies on variations and he was good against most teams in IPL even when bowling in power plays. Now he doesnt look that convincing anymore, especially against Aussies in the recent CB series. So it remains to be seen if Rahul Sharma will be effective as batsmen play him more often and get used to picking him.

His quicker ones turn out to be slow long hops. He is unable to generate pace like Ajmal does. Gayle simply muscled him today. Not many can do that against him. When Gayle is in charge your best option is to drastically slow down the pace not bowl faster or toss up at normal pace.

His length is good length to just short of god length, that is where he gets extra bounce.

They all try to copy Warne, they can only copy the action, not the spin. Moreover, Rahul is a tall spinner, he can never be like Warne. Height is a disadvantage here as he cannot give flight. He is good the way he is bowling. I would like him to make his googly more effective, like Chawla.

No timing, no proper connection. Still went for 6.
