It's time we grew up as a nation. I bet each and every person posting on this thread will watch this movie without hesitation and think they are nature enough to handle it. Yet when it comes to let others choose between watching and not watching, they will jump to say why so and so is not suitable for general Indian public. This hypocrisy has to stop. I know people of many nations laugh at our thinking. Most of you as a kid or teenagers, even watched hard core porn, without any harm. But suddenly we have to protect the entire nation from the great danger of Vidya's side boobs. One person even went as far as to say that the movie should not be shown because families will feel uncomfortable write switching channels. Laughable.

If you think about it, take any movie from a year and if you were to show it to an audience from even three years earlier you will shock people. Remember 'choli ke peeche', the raja hindustani kiss, indipop music videos and item girls, jism, the list goes on. None of it is barely thought of as inappropriate in a few years time. The dirty picture will have the same reaction in a few years that aamir and karishma's kiss has now.

How does that even make sense? I can understand the argument that the contents should not be classified as adult, but to consider a national award as a censor certificate is insane.

The aim of the national award is to chose the best film to be promoted and awarded. The ideal movie is also one which should be seen by the maximum number of people and promoted in a big way. Cliche' or small-audience targeted movies should never win the national awards. Any art which wins awards at a national level should always be promoted and watched by the entire nation if possible. Thats the whole point of awards, isnt it, to give visibilty and audiences to film makers? Its a movie which is considered the best movie for an entire year by the goverment. Yet it is somehow thought to be inappropriate to be seen by the same nation? How does this make any sense? An award winning painting should be seen by as many people as possible and the goverment should also promote it. How is this any different? The very purpose of art and awards given in arts is to give the object maximum visibilty and audience. If a film is not worthy even of being seen by the majority of a country, then how can it win the award? Isnt the national award supposed to be for the best movie of the country. How can a movie be both best and not worthy of being seen by the common public?

My whole point was, the discretion should be left up to the citizen who is mature enough to make the choice whether to see or change the channel. If even one person wants to see, he should have the choice. I will say again, each and every person on this thread will gladly watch the movie if given a chance. Yet they somehow think that the general public does not have the sense or maturity enough to make that choice for himself. That they will somehow become corrupted on seeing a movie like dirty picture. If thats not hypocrisy, I dont know what is. People will download, watch it on internet, etc but still demand a ban so that other people cannot see. Who is it really going to harm if aired? If a family doesnt want to see, they will change the channel.

Crappy films/actors do get the award many times - doesn't mean that they are the best. It can be the case with The Dirty Picture. How does "promoted in a big way" make a film ideal or good enough for a national wards? If a film is made in Tamil then its obvious that people who cannot understand that language would most probably not watch it and that means the film won't be seen by the majority of the people of the country but that doesn't make the film any less worthy for the National Award.
