However like BPL it will still benefit cricket in Pak regardless of how big it becomes. ECB are also trying to create an IPL style league, again wont compare to IPL due to crowded calendar and lack of wide scale interest in cricket in the UK.

And their earning through TV rights is around 43 crores. So how is most of the money is from TV rights. Did you ride the short bus to school? The BCCI gets $1.74 billion (Rs 8700 crore) from TV rights for the first 10 years. This far exceeds any other income head including sale of franchisees (except for Pune which went at 300 million, all others went at 60-100 million a piece). The revenue model is different for Franchisees since they get to keep a large percentage of gate revenue while the tv rights are shared equally between everyone. IPL can survive without the ticket money (like it did in the second edition) but it cant do without the TV rights money.

With the prices the franchises go for Indian players will prolly buy some for themselves. Expect Jadeja to buy a franchise and fill it with crappy allrounders similar to him like Afrid, Malik etc.

Every other way to make money from the league is second to it. Take out the TV right money and the entire model will have to come down in scale by several magnitudes to adjust for it. And the revenue models of the BCCI is different from that of the franchisees. But the amounts disbursed to franchisees by the BCCI comes from tv rights money. Why do you think IPL's scale is much bigger than the Big Bash or the BPL, its not because the stadiums here are that much bigger or more people attend here, its because of a huge Indian middle class that outnumbers cricketing audiences in other countries and the advertisers' desire to target it. This is not to say that gate collections are insignificant , just that they are relatively much lesser than receipts from TV rights
bulbul Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 G.ran however we can argue about only TV revenue enough for a successfull T20 leaugue without people in stadium it wont worht much..just imagine playing a T20 match in 90% empty stadium..it wont add any glamour also matches wont be intensive either eventhough TV revenues are primary goal you need people in ground to make more entertaining.. already some neighbours worried by seing few empty chairs in IPL just imagine their situation when they see only chairs in stadium :winky:

It looks much more exciting to see a full stadium even while watching on tv. Thats why if they decide to host it in UAE , they should offer free tickets to attract decent amount of crowds. TV money that franchise get will pay only players salary. From where they will bill other expense. TV rights money can't sustain IPL . Like I posted before, the revenue model for franchisees is different from that of the BCCI. Both parties need to find IPL to be profitable for it to be sustainable in the long run. TV rights are the single biggest money spinner for the entire tournament. You didnt answer my previous question. Why is the IPL bigger than the BPL and Big Bash despite having similar sized stadiums and comparable attendance for the matches?
