~ Miss Warner ~ Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hi everyone. I know a lot of the people on this forum hate me, but I was wondering if you guys could put that aside for a brief moment and give me some honest advice on new phones? :) Pretty please???? :girl_hide: I am getting a new phone on Friday, and need to decide between: iPhone 4s Samsung Galaxy S2 HTC Desire Sony-Ericsson Xperia Nokia n900 Those are the phones that I get to pick from on my new plan, I've been googling around and so far the iPhone seems a little infront because of the apps, but I think the HTC and Samsung also have apps? Does anybody have any of these phones or know of any other phones new that they would recommend that are of similar value, as I can request another type of phone as long as it is valued under $600AU. The main things I am looking for are having a nice large screen and dynamic wallpapers (wallpapers that move, I know the HTC and Samsung have these), also a camera of 8mp or higher :) Thanks to anyone who can help! :two_thumbs_up:
Desi Cartman Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 best bet is iPhone4s .. works for all ... btw stay away from Virgin Plans as they are cheaper but have poor network and are VERY expensive if you go over the cap. TIP: get any connection from Coles Mobile and they will give u a lot of free stuff including a $100 voucher from coles :woot:
EnterTheVoid Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 S2 ; Huge screen, lightweight and tons of cool apps. Iphone 4S is smaller and weighs heavier ;; *****y apps to go with it, stuff that is free for Android, you have to pay for, on Apple - e.g. Angry Birds, Space.
Cricketics Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Seems to me you are SPRINT customer as you mentioned those phones. Well, Galaxy S2 is the best. Don't even compare Iphone/Galaxy s2 with other phones you listed. If you happen to get Desire or Xperia, you should get it for cheap as they are not as good as the phone Iphone or Galaxy s2 are.

Huge screen is actually not an advantage for a "phone" Its neither a tablet nor a phone IMO I have been using iPhone for more than 2 years and in total I have spent 4-5 bucks on app

Oh! It seems you have been here for sometime but probably I have not been that active in the last few months. My advice would be to wait for a few days. Samsung Galaxy S3 might launch in the next few days. Some are speculating the release date to be very soon and the phone would be officially unveiled on May 3 i.e. day after tomorrow as per industry sources. So, why opt for an older generation phone. Even if you go for Samsung S2, there would probably be a price drop due to the launch of next generation Galaxy. BTW, Galaxy Note is one of the best one out there among the current phones and Galaxy Nexus (with Android ICS) is not bad either. Personally, I would advice to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 launch if you can delay it for sometime. Though it is not official from Samsung and they are only saying new galaxy but most doubt it would be Samsung Galaxy S3 with a lot of feature enhancements and of course the Android 4.0 ICS. I would not recommend iPhone if you care about budget. Many of the free apps in Android are paid on iPhone. And iPhone is anyways going to be more expensive than Android as it is provided as a free OS by Google to manufacturers like Samsung. I am quite sure that even the new Samsung Galaxy would be more value for money phone than iPhone4S. And Samsung Galaxy S3 is being compared to iPhone 5 which is yet to launch. Here are the expected features and a possible comparison with iPhone 5 (which is not yet released and would be Apple's next phone) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-vs-apple-iphone-5-80344/ Out of the present phones, I would personally recommend Samsung Galaxy Note if it is available. It is much more than a phone in terms of features and still priced lower than an iPhone. Cricketics Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I guess she is in Aus :desiwoman: lol didn't know that. btw talking about huge screen.s Ya someone of them can be too big, but I have seen some people like huge screens as it makes typing easier for people. Some people just hate how some touch screen are too small for them to type. I dont care either way. As long as the phone is good, I will get it making sure it's not a big dinosaur.
~ Miss Warner ~ Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Thanks everyone for the replies! :two_thumbs_up: I have posted the same question on facebook and everyone seems to agree along with a few on here that Samsung Galaxy S2 is the best choice. I would wait for the S3 to launch if I was able to but my current phone is dead and I cannot wait for a new one, I rely too heavily on my phone! Galaxy S2 is $499 here in Aus, with free car kit and case, so I will go with that. Thanks everyone :)

Me too, I hate it when I see people boast about android or iPhone. Trust me there are people who feel proud in buying a non apple phone which is just funny. I had Htc for a few weeks and it just wasnt right for me. I prefer iPhone an IMO it's easier and better to use. I have seen people return 2 galaxy phones in 2 weeks as they would heat up, a friend who was always rebooting his Samsung android phone but he is very proud of android still. So I guess it's each to his own.
ViruRulez Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Good choice. Galaxy Note is the best one out there but I suppose it is not available in your contract there. So, no issues. Galaxy S2 is also equally good. Here is a drop test of Galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4S. Galaxy S2 is also proven to be more sturdy than iPhone in the drop test. Last convincing point. :) elKxgsrJFhw

bulbul Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Galaxy S3 will be released tommarrow..so wait for some time if you wish to buy Galaxy series either u can go for S3 or in couple of months S2 price will be reduced
yoda Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Go for iPhone. Android just plain sucks. How do I know? I have one. :giggle: You really can't go wrong with an iPhone. I only went for Android cause we already had an iPhone at home and I am not happy I did. It is too google centric, apps are limited (altho not as bad), the orientation changes are not as accurate as the iPhone, music sync isn't as clean as it is via iTunes, yada yada yada.
EnterTheVoid Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Buy the S2 outright and get a pre paid plan. I did - when the S2 was more expansive than it is now - and so far, so good.
