rkt.india Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 But he did not give repeated chances to them like our Dhoni giving chances to VK and PK. It is the selectors who pick them, not Dhoni and same was the case with Ganguly. Ganguly never picked anyone. Selectors pick the players, not captain.
rkt.india Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Dhoni gave Jogi only because Bhajji was not sure of bowling the last over. We must agree that Jogi's over and the misbah's wicket was pure luck. Do you think Jogi was a good enough player to play for India? that was a sarcastic comment
Number Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 It is the selectors who pick them' date=' not Dhoni and same was the case with Ganguly. Ganguly never picked anyone. Selectors pick the players, not captain.[/quote'] So Ganguly had best bowlers, best batsmen and then best selectors. :giggle:
rkt.india Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 So Ganguly had best bowlers' date=' best batsmen and then best selectors. :giggle:[/quote'] Ganguly may not have had best bowlers, best batsmen, best selectors, but similarly he was not the best captain too. Captaincy is highly overrated. A captain is as good as the team and players he has. Ganguly was the one captain who skipped the test match because he did not like the pitch.

Yes and dhoni has skipped matches for India after being "too tired" of playing in IPL. So, that evens it up.
PaceAttack Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 It is the selectors who pick them' date=' not Dhoni and same was the case with Ganguly. Ganguly never picked anyone. rkt.india Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Yes and dhoni has skipped matches for India after being "too tired" of playing in IPL. So' date=' that evens it up.[/quote'] How that evens up? Then SRT had skipped more matches than anyone else and that is called given rest, not skipping and IPL is also an Indian domestic tournament.

Everyone knows what had happened at Nagpur in 2004. It was the ego clash regarding the pitch and due to that he skipped the test.
rkt.india Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Didnt chandu borde once said that once Sourav became a strong force in Indian team' date=' it was Dada who picked the whole team not the selectors?[/quote'] I have never heard anything like that.
PaceAttack Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 But Ganguly picked Iqbal Siiddiqui and Tinu Yohanun' date=' bigger trundlers than Vinay.[/quote'] Look at this yaar. Dada never picked Tinu yohanan or Siddiqui bowlers::yay: New Delhi: India's captain Saurav Ganguly is angry the selectors did not consult him before picking the team for the first Test against England, a newspaper reported on Friday."They (selectors) did not bother to ask me for my suggestions, nobody called me," the Mid-Day newspaper quoted Ganguly as saying.Ganguly, who was away on the South African tour when the selectors named the 14-man squad on Wednesday, said he had expected a phone call from chairman Chandu Borde."Couldn't they call me for two minutes? Is it a new rule that the captain will not be asked for his opinion? I'll try to confirm this from the president Jagmohan Dalmiya," he told the paper."Now I understand why Sachin resigned," Ganguly said, referring to master batsman Sachin Tendulkar's refusal to lead India two seasons ago amidst reports of a spat with the selectors. In an unexpected move, the selectors omitted the entire five-man pace attack that went to South Africa, for the Mohali Test scheduled to start on Monday.Borde said that except pace spearhead Javagal Srinath, who bowled well in South Africa before being injured, the rest of the attack had disappointed him.In their place, the selectors picked three rookie bowlers, Sanjay Bangar, Iqbal Siddiqui and Tinu Yohannan."I know our pacemen have not bowled well in South Africa," Ganguly said."But are the chosen ones better than Ajit Agarkar, Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan?"We needed a left-armer to create some roughs on the wicket so that off spinners could turn the ball more."But now we don't have that option," Ganguly said, adding that he had only watched Siddiqui in action http://m.thatscricket.com/news/2001/11/30/301101afp-ganguly.html Dada was pure class......:yay::yay::yay::two_thumbs_up:

Selectors pick them. Captain's job is to make them perform and extract the talent they have and then select the best of what he has and then get the best out of even the mediocre ones.

I will try and get the website in which Chandu borde said that it was Dada who picked the whole team once he became a strong force in Indian team. But as for as the team selection is concerned, it proves my point that Dad never backed medicore players unlike our Dhoni who does not whom to pick. I think Dhoni once offered to resign over Run Provider singh. lol.

I think Dhoni once offered to resign over Run Provider singh. lol. But that is Dhoni's thinking. He thinks medium pacers bowl accurately and quick bowlers are wayward while he does not understand that even our medium pacers are wayward. He thinks PK is our best ODI bowler, but he does not see Ishant has better stats than PK for India in ODIs and Ishant was supposed be a poor ODI bowler hen we can see how poor has PK been.

Not because he had the best cricketing brain, but he backed the right talent who can win matches. Thats y we call him DADA. The big boss.:--D

Magneto Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Not always,, Mohammad Kaif, Badani, Parthiv patel had his share of poor team selections as well. After tour match in Australia Sadagopan Ramesh was expected to be picked by all sundries. But he omitted him and picked Akash CHopra ahead of him despite he failed in 3 out of 4 tour innings. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/132101.html And Akash Chopra did well enough for himself in that series. Consumed enough balls helping the shine to wear off so that the middle order is not exposed to the new ball. Played an important role in the good opening partnerships India had, thereby helping India to do well in the series.
