kumble_rocks
One of the best what ? One too many what ? Beer, presumably. I don't drink beer. If you think RS is one of the best, you either haven't heard much cricket commentary or you are easily pleased. I've particularly noticed Atherton trying to stir himinto saying something even mildly interesting but it just goes over Ravi's head. Hasn't got an ounce of humour and just states the obvious. Atherton and mildly interesting are oxymoron ! Anyways , humor is overrated. Ravi is one of the best commentator in my opinion . He is impartial and erudite and contrary to what you say , he does provide excellent analysis. Link to comment
Donny
Looks like my comments went straight over your head too. I found it amusing/ironic that someone as dry as Athers was doing this. Link to comment
MundaPakistani
If you must know' date=' even [b']Pakistanis grudgingly admit that Shastri is one of the best. And here you are equating him to one of the worst commentator ever ?Had one too many , Mate? ?:beer_yum: Why do so many things have to be related to Pakistan/Pakistanis? Link to comment
kumble_rocks
Why do so many things have to be related to Pakistan/Pakistanis? What so many things ? I have just made a mere observation that rival team spectators also appreciate Shastri's neutrality , impartiality and excellent analysis when commentating . Link to comment

The Outsider
Good one by Shastri, though I agree with Donny about him being a pretty flat commentator. Link to comment
talksport
Donny, Ravi Shastri is nationistic, he doesnt s**k up to opponents critisizing India/Indian...... From a neutral oint of view he is OK, From an Indian point of view he rocks and he knows his cricket Link to comment
Donny
Knows his cricket ? After 80 Tests and captaining India, I should hope so. However, knowing his cricket is only the first requisite of being a good commentator. I've no idea what you meant by your first sentence. Link to comment
Predator_05
Shastri isn't really an analytical commentator, he is a "play-by-play" guy who comments on the proceedings as they happen. Every commentary pairing needs one of these guys as a foil for the analytical type. Link to comment
Lurker
However, knowing his cricket is only the first requisite of being a good commentator. True. The first, and in my opinion most important, requisite for being a good commentator is for a person to keep silent unless he can add to the proceedings, be it on radio or television. This is where Shastri scores. He doesnt say things that set you thinking, "Hey I know that already, why are you getting paid to say it?". xx Link to comment
