Praise Narendra Modi & you become India's Most Wanted
She sang her first song even before Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi or many other Congress leaders were born. Not one but several generations grew up to her melodious voice and many more will do so in the years to come. She was won the highest civilian honour in India and her patriotic songs can bring a tear down anyone's eye. Yet, that does not stop enlightened Congressmen from rebuking Lata Mangeshkar because she has committed the worst crime in the rulebook of the Congress party- praise Narendra Modi! Lata Mangeshkar committed the 'crime' on the evening of November 1 when she said, "Narendrabhai is like my brother. All of us want to see him become the Prime Minister. On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I hope our wishes come true." This statement was enough to send Congressmen into a tizzy. The Lata Mangeshkar, whose "Aaye Mere Watan Ke Logo" brought tears to the eyes of none other than Pandit Nehru was now a punching bag for the Congress. The effervescent Rajiv Shukla, who has no reservations in saying Sachin Tendulkar and Rekha will campaign for the Congress squirmed. India's former ambassador to Angola (a political appointee) and Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal commented on Lata Mangeshkar's stint as a Rajya Sabha MP and urged her to stay out of politics. Bhakta Charan Das lived up to his name and continued the adverse comments on Lata Mangeshkar. Suddenly, there was a competition among Congressmen as to who will give the shrillest call for Lata Mangeshkar to stay out of politics! Such is their fear and contempt of Narendra Modi that they will not even spare a national icon.
The other bands of 'criminals' are the same set of people you see everyday on television. Yes, TV journalists and psephologists whose opinion polls predict rising popularity of Narendra Modi and declining star of Rahul Gandhi have been called 'unscientific' and 'sold to the highest bidder' by the epitome of honesty, the Congress.
One can understand if Congress involves singers, actors, investment banks but their desperation has scaled such heights they have not sparred scientists as well. Take the case of Nambi Narayanan, who everyone agrees is one of the best scientists we have produced. When details emerged how RB Sreekumar, another 'secular hero' tortured Narayanan, Sreekumar himself and Shaktisinh Gohil preferred to go on a tirade against Nambi Narayanan, even linking Modi in the debate. At least spare the scientists! But then, strange are the ways in the Congress- the bright and honest ones are tortured and the torturers are rewarded. The likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Goldman Sachs, Nambi Narayanan join a very exclusive list of ‘India's Most Wanted'- the dreaded list of people who have committed crimes even bigger than Dawood Ibrahim or Tiger Memon. It seems the famous people & firms have done a grave crime by backing Modi Stalwarts of this list include Amitabh Bachchan, who praised Modi, became Gujarat tourism's brand ambassador only to be snubbed by Maharashtra's Congress government. Other members are RK Raghavan, whose offence was that he followed the highest court of the land and conducted probe into the Gujarat riots that found no role of Narendra Modi in the violence. After years of meritorious service, what RK Raghavan got was allegations of impropriety and corruption.
Mehbooba Mufti could not courageously say she praised Narendra Modi due the fear of this same Intellectual Taliban, who even made Sheila Dixit backtrack her statement saying governments get re-elected because they work.
Be very worried everybody, in the next 6 months, there will be more challenges to our very freedom and speech. And more threats and fear applied to anyone who doesn't agree to a certain high command/party. Similar things have been noticed in this very forum, abuses and certain name-calling because one particular user thinks otherwise.

The middle class's love for the rightwing is nothing new. What is new is their belief that a small section of people with access to a voice on the internet represents the opinion of the nation. This has been been disproved time and again in every election, yet the middle class cling on to this delusion and actually strengthen it through positive reinforcement on social media Scratch the surface and both Rahul and Modi are different sides of the same political coin. Rahul begs for votes through fake cries for sympathy and Modi makes jingoistic, chest thumping empty comments which makes the chaddi brigade go weak in the knees. Both offer little in the term of solutions of the real problems India faces - Poverty and unemployment. Why? Because these problems are hard to solve and don't make for good soundbytes during election year.

A question I have always pondered. why does the indian left hate the indian middle class? here in america' date=' the left clings on to the middle class like a newborn to its parent :dontknow:[/quote'] Remnants of the age of communism. Remember, the so called liberalization & reforms came after the USSR collapsed i.e. we gave up on some of their far left fantasies after they ceased to exist. Even then, the Communist parties continue to be a force to this day and the largest party continues to carry on the same old ideology, which works well in election years and we're still talking poverty, food inflation, toilets etc more than five decades after their rule. They have been mighty successful in keeping the nation full of beggars that can be thrown some freebies in election year and thus retaining power except a few aberrations here and there.

There is no reason to "hate" any economic strata, let alone the middle class which is the engine of economic growth in our country and is absolutely needed. The political influence of the middle class is however greatly exaggerated because they are the ones who have a voice most of the time, except during election year when the poor get to vote. if you go by Social media, then Modi should have an overwhelming majority on his own. Let's see when those numbers arrive in 2014

You may like this article Why Ayn Rand outsells Karl Marx in India by 16 to 1 (and what else she tells us about countries)
David Seaton, a left-wing American blogger and journalist living in Spain, sees a darker explanation. Rand, he conjectures, is probably a favorite with upper-caste, rich Indians, who take one of her key precepts, the rejection of altruism, as a license to ignore India’s searing poverty and institutionalized racism. In that sense, he argues, Indian Randians are a mirror-image of those in America, who prefer to close their eyes to their country’s growing wealth gap, its persistent racial discrimination, and the vanishing of its vaunted meritocracy.

^ Agree with the point about the Indian middle class ignoring the income gap and social inequalities in the country but IMO Both Rand and Marx's ideologies are impractical in the current political system We need the free market and capitalist system. It is the only economic system that has been proven to work. However the government also has certain responsibilities towards its disadvantaged citizens and to ensure that no caste, creed or religion is discriminated against. Just like the government has to provide education, health and food to its citizens who don't have access to it. Ignoring these basic problems which still exist in our country is akin to an ostritch burying its head in the sand while just choosing to see a small section of the society which has done quite well for itself in the last two decades

Yes - both are impractical and I personally do not recommend either in entirety. The problem with any kind of disadvantaged schemes is people crying foul when they aren't at the receiving end of it. For example, you will see eons of cyber space wasted on Food Security schemes but very less (or no) discussion on tax subsidies to jewellery traders. This example highlights the typical mindset - apna kaam chalta toh bhaad mein jaaye junta. IMO, the only way a society progresses is to be "one" - the moment the demagoguery of "us" versus "them" takes the centre stage you know we are in regression.
