I think to pass a bill a 2/3rds majority is required and it doesn't require the entire opposition to agree on the matter. For a healthy democracy' date=' selective amnesia is the worst thing one can happen. No one disagrees on "where" the blame lies - [b']just raises a question on how the other side will conduct once they are in the driving seat.
Vajpayee was able to leave behind an economy with a low fiscal deficit, a current account surplus (a remarkable feat which had not been achieved for several decades), a forex reserve nearly equal to the external debt (another noteworthy achievement) and low inflation. These macro-economic factors coupled with infrastructure development according to me constitute the way forward for sustained economic growth leading to job growth and poverty alleviation. The NDA built twice the length of highways and created twice the number of jobs than the combined two terms of the UPA. Today the UPA has left India with a nearly $70 Billion CAD, a gap of $120 Billion between our forex reserve and external debt, a yawning fiscal deficit and low growth. For me the only question it raises is how could an economist PM allow things to get to this pass. The singular achievement of the last 10 yrs seems to be that we now measure the corruption scandals not in hundreds or even thousands of crores but in percentage of the GDP.

A good economist doesn't equate to a good administrator. The same person as an economist did a good job but couldn't do full justice as the head of the country. Just because the Vajpayee led BJP was able to do it, does not by default means the next BJP led government would be able to do it as well. I think we need to guard against such a sort of thinking.

That is a personal judgment call. It is clear to me that the current BJP PM candidate has followed the prescription of low deficit (around 1% in Gujarat), smaller government and infrastructure development. Furthermore, the core economic team that Vajpayee had - Jaswant Singh, Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie is still pretty much around and clearly in support of the BJP candidate.

I would however like to note that there have been some concerns about the economic policies and condition of Gujarat. In addition, it also seems like the core economic team should be celebrated for their achievements in the economic sector than Vajpayee ONLY. Credit to ABVP for assembling the team though.

Why so many Gujarat IPS officers coming out with so many secrets about Shah & Modi? The Duo must've been overusing the IPS officers in so many so many 'boond-pangey' issues over the years...And then they ditched these IPS officers... It's payback time now...

I don't understand it. What was the pressing need? There are not elections too in UP. Why effing take more 'boond pangeys' when you are already in backfoot due to the 'snooping scnadal'... What was the pressing need?

yeah. BTW Modi came to the rally after the MLAs were honored by the state leaders so that in the future if these MLAs are found guilty (which I think they will be), Modi can stay clear and say that he didn't honor them even though they were honored in his rally and the whole thing was obviously done with his permission.
