What does all this augur for 2014? Hit by scams and anti-incumbency, the Congress could well sink below its historical low voteshare of 25.82% in 1998. It won 141 seats in that general election. With many constituencies since delimited and redrawn, its seat total – despite direct cash transfers and the food security bill – could plummet to its 1999 all-time low of 114. (The TimesNow-CVoter opinion poll, released on April 16, 2013, in fact projects 113 seats for the Congress. My projection, posted in Countdown to 2014 - or 2013? on March 25, 2013, gave the Congress 107 seats.)
Nt sure about these predictions.Porbably just made up.Cant seriously understand how they came to the prediction of ADMK winning 27 seats in TN

SRK does. Salman too Or do they not count? :winky:
I think it's about the topi-tilak reference that's being said in politics. That's very one sided. This article as mentioned previously explains it. http://www.firstpost.com/india/the-shallow-secularism-of-nitish-kumar-is-a-farce-699007.html Anyways, it's interesting to see Muslims who are unfairly being labeled not being Muslims for their liking to Modi. That's the thing, many people make misinformed opinion but there is growing amount of people who are learning that. Thus, many once staunch haters of Modi are changing. There is cause of unity of people if Modi is seen as a PM candidate. That's the reason of the fear from his opponents.

Actually they don't count in this context. They certainly aren't the norm. And I am okay with that. I don't believe muslims should be asked to accept any faith or ritual to fit in. I wouldn't consider them non secular for it unless it is "intolerance". PS. wasn't there a fatwa against Salman for idol worship ?

That is an excellent link. "The “topi-tilak†reference is a pathetic one. That in the 66th year of independence we cannot think of secularism as anything above “symbolism†is ominous. It implies that Muslims are more concerned about someone pretending to wear a “topi†than more substantive issues. In our entire existence as an independent nation, our “secular†leaders have been doing nothing but this: pretend to help the minorities while actually doing nothing on the ground for them. They have been running a protection racket for the minorities, and Kumar now joins the crowd. The joke, in fact, is on Kumar. The Hindi expression “kisiko topi pehnana†means making a fool of somebody. This is exactly what our secularists have been doing – fooling the Muslim minorities by promising them everything but good education, better jobs and integration into the mainstream."

It would be interesting to see if the number of Muslims who support Modi break the critical mass. I am not being cynical or optimistic, merely observant. Most politicians whose USP is creating a divide (religious or caste based) do end up getting support from those they chastise. Laloo Yadav came to power with agenda to "set Forward caste straight" in Bihar. And while the bulk of FC never supported him, some did, who were promptly tagged opportunist. Same with Indira Gandhi/Congress. Inspite of them being tagged anti-Sikh at some point they did see a lot of Sikh leaders who became their supporter. Point being Muslims supporting Modi is hardly any earth shattering event in Indian politics. What remains to be seen is if this Muslim populace is a small %age or goes beyond critical mass.

The question then becomes - Why isn't it the norm? My take on that is rather simple. A Hindu, say Nitish Kumar, can go on stage (or within the confines of his home) and chant La Illah il Allah or Wahe Guru without questioning his imaan, his faith. Hinduism is very inclusive. Most other religions are not. Islam, for example, is built on the tenet that there is only one God and Prophet Muhammed was his messenger. For a Muslim it is a matter of questionable imaan if he says Om Namah Shivay. Not so much for a Hindu. For eff sake I chanted Our Father in Heaven for 10 years in school and never felt a darn thing, nor did my parents wonder if the dharam of their son was in danger. This is a plus for Hinduism, not a slant against Islam. Not sure why people do not get it.

Fatwa comes dime a dozen, who cares Ravish? End of the day these two gents both have temples/pooja ghar within their household and really thats what counts, doesnt it?

Exactly, this is the greatest strength of hinduism and also the reason why hindus generally dont go to other country to kill people by terrorism. But seeing some 'hindus' on the internet, they dont want to follow hindusim at all, they just want hinduism to be a second rate copy of other religions with the same insecurities and the same violence. Clearly they dont have the first idea what hinduism is about

Too many morons trying to equate Modi with Hindu nationalism, he is far from it. People support him because he has proved to be a competent administrator. Whilst Muslims burn in roi and live in squalor conditions compared to Gujarat, all the detractors see is unproven 2002 accusations against modi. If Modi had even 5% influence over national media, Congress would have been looking at complaints at over 60 years of genocidial communist policies whilst the select few reaped benefits living a champagne socialist life. But alas Congress' war chest knows no bounds when it comes to buying silence and support. The rape of little girls in Delhi is epitome of Congress rule, from Sonia Gandhi to her dogs on the streets.

Yes. Another thing about Modi is if anybody who doesn't agree with the narrative presented by Congress and its co parties (media), they are unfairly branded and labelled. That a big disgrace and really that's not any form of secularism at all. Here is an example from this link (imo, must read) http://www.manushi.in/articles.php?articleId=1685&ptype=&pgno=3
After each riot, it is the same Hindus who help the rehabilitation of Muslims. I always say this, if the Gujarati Hindus were 100% communal, the Muslims would have been destroyed long ago. It is because these Hindus are not communal that Muslims continue to prosper in Gujarat.
and this also
When we talk too much of minorities, who has given minorities full rights? It is the Hindu majority. Who wrote the Constitution? Hindus. We must appreciate Hindus for this/give them credit."

I am in complete agreement with that. But I believe moment you narrow down the possibility of secularism to fundamentalist yes or no kind of situation, it will mirror communalism. If Salman wears a tilak, then it is simply his prerogative. Same if he doesn't. In my eyes, he doesn't become more or less secular for it. If he is tolerant of every other faith and respects the right to do so, even if he sorely disagrees with them, then too he is secular in my book.

Fake encounter case: Tulsiram cops made 74 calls to Modi's office http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-04-21/india/38709949_1_rubabuddin-call-details-encounter-case

AHMEDABAD: The top cops in the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case were in constant tough with chief minister Narendra Modi's office during the time of encounter in December 2006. This is revealed in call details gathered by probe agency. Alleging that Modi was "the biggest political beneficiary of the encounters", Sohrabuddin Sheikh's brother Rubabuddin has sought further probe by the CBI into the call details that lead to the chief minister's office (CMO). Addressing newspersons, Rubabuddin's counsel Mukul Sinha said that in all 74 calls were made between two cops and the CMO during two encounters. Sohrabuddin was bumped off on November 26, 2005 and Tusliram was killed on December 28, 2006. Furnishing call details, gathered earlier by the CID (crime), Rubabuddin has claimed that D G Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandian were in constant touch with the CMO, and the frequency of calls increased as the probe in Sohrabuddin's encounter case gained momentum. As per the call details, two OSDs to CM - Parag and O P Singh were in contact with the accused cops, says Sinha. The cops were also in touch with CMO on landline numbers. Rubabuddin has claimed that he can now seek investigation on these details, since the Supreme Court has clubbed both the cases. "These call details are available with the CBI from the beginning, then why did the CBI not conduct any probe into them till date?" Rubabuddin's counsel questioned. He added, "There could be a proper explanation of these calls, but they are required to be probed first. And since Modi is the biggest political beneficiary in all fake encounters with his minister of state (Amit Shah) accused in two cases, there is a certain connection with the CM's office, which needs investigation." Advocate Sinha said the CBI did not investigate the case beyond the alleged involvement of Amit Shah, but the call details raised a question why the accused cops were in contact with the CMO. Claiming that the CBI has failed to probe the larger conspiracy as well as accusing the agency of acting on limited call details, Rubabuddin has demanded thorough probe into call details of all Modi's officials and Shah's calls. He has also called for a thorough probe into call details of all accused cops, as details of only two officers were made available. Besides, Rubabuddin has sought probe into how Sohrabuddin's Kauserbi was killed, on connection of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh with the encounters and on who ordered Vanzara's transfer from ATS to Bhuj as border range DIG.

WTF are these quotes? Are you doing a favor on the muslims by allowing them to rehabilitate and live? Are hindus in Gujrat actually so morally bankrupt that somehting which is taken for granted by every Indian in every state is shown as a favor to muslims by them? the fact that rioters are in a minority is a bragging point? Most state have zero hindu rioters Hindus gave muslims credit in the constitution. No! Indians gave them credit in the constitution. The people who wrote the constitution never thought of themselves as hindus first and would spit on the person making such a quote today. This is the primary reason we are not a failed state like our neighbors but the idiots making these asnine quotes very clearly want us to go back to those levels

You didn't read the article? It's about the general public as well who gets unfairly labeled. You may dislike Modi but that shouldn't make him politically untouchable as programmed by Congress.

thank you for being jury, judge and executioner, but your branding of a person is confined to your personal opinion, which may or may not be based on hard facts. this branding is only possible on a large scale due to a left wing bias in mainstream media outlets, nothing else.

It isnt programmed by Congress but influenced by his own actions

http://www.manushi.in/articles.php?articleId=1685&ptype=&pgno=1 That's one excellent article and imo, must read. And there are plenty of examples like this. Perhaps, Zafar Sareshwala is one of the well-known examples. And I still feel disgusted that how the so called secularists publicity humiliated this man for not being "a Muslim". That completely exposes the sad reality here and why India will never succeed when many simply follow "convenient secularism". Modi very much deserves an opportunity to run for the PM.
You are disgusted over some people taking potshots at Sareshwala. But if it were a Hindu who were to criticize Modi, the generic response to such a person ( on this thread) would involve calling him a pseudo secular, anti-national or anti-hindu etc. Would that disgust you as much?

As for being judge, jury and executioner, thats how people form opinion, they garner information, read various media reports and facts, and then form an opinion. There are some things I can not compromise with, no matter how much money or prosperity you promise me, and one of that is genocide. If congress was basing their campaign around people from the 1984 riots I would have the same opinion about them. Corruption etc, come way down the list for me
