Can we promote Raina at no. 4 for 4-5 ODIs now. Not that I've confidence in him to be a great player at that position but the way he has played in this series' date=' he deserves it.[/quote'] Good point, with no Tendulkar and Yuvi in the team, Raina should be batting up the order at 4-5. If I were Raina, I would be kicking myself for not being able to play at #4. He's a great finisher and as a result is kinda stuck at that #6/7 position for a long time. But the better batsmen should be playing up the order as much as possible.

He's exactly the one whom you are looking for :whack: him I say :protest:
Has the gall to say come out even now :giggle: I mean do we really have any lower order batsman better than Raina? Do you think Rahane or Tiwary could play such an innings lower down the order?

No big hitter left with MSD lower down the order where he adds great value. Need Someone else to step up. Pathan+MSD+Tiwary/Rohit will have to fill that position.

Tiwary may adapt but not Rahane. In any case, Raina looks the best out of he three. Dn't see any reason why this should change anytime soon.

Raina's position is unquestioned, his has done this in all conditions against all bowlers. This guy has t20 international 100 vs SA who had Steyn, Morne, and kallis bowling. Pathan...the jury is still out. It took him three games to do anything of note with either bat or ball. I would like to see him finish this series with a batting and bowling average of 30 and 30 respectively. And bowl econ rate of 5ish. Maybe then he deserves spot.

With Raina' date=' there ll always a be a qualifying remark subject to the conditions and the bowling attack.[/quote'] That's true. Though with a few adjustments in his technique and improving shot selection, he should be a fine ODI player.

10-1-37-2 isn't good enough for u when the opposition chases 314 and manages 293  He saved our bum in the death overs when Zaheer/Yadav were going for plenty.

The guy was the best bowler in the 1st game. He had figues of 2/30 odd when we were defending 314. Really what exactly do people expect from Irfan - a century and a 5 wkt haul every game  The man has contributed in the 2 wins we have had so far and we most probably would have been 0-3 in the series so far without Pathan instead of 2-1 and still people are not convinced :banghead:

Contribution of a finisher or a batsman who can get quick runs at the death can never be overstated. We can find plenty of batsmen for the top or middle order - Tiwary, Rahane, Pujara etc. but we will struggle to find a decent lower order batsman. At the moment Raina is the best no. 6 or 7 batsman going around in intl cricket and that's where he should remain.
