Dhoni? nah, not yet. Its definitely bevan without question. Dhoni may be among the top 5 but not the best yet. And I dont think some1 like pollard can ever be a good finisher. Pollard only can hit the ball hard, he doesnt have the ability to get runs out of unplayable deliveries and has some serious problem against short pitch bowling Mathews is still far from being labelled as the next BEVAN

Lol what ? He was MoM in WC final , which Bevan can't boast of . Neither was Bevan as destructive as Dhoni in first half of the innings. Dhoni has a clear edge over Bevan.

Bevan did not possess the ability to clear the boundary at will which MSD has. Bevan won matches batting with the tailenders when the asking rate was not much but wkts left were a problem. If 80 runs are needed in last 10 overs, the world's best finisher should finish things off easily. But I do not think Bevan would be able to do it as easily as Dhoni does.

IMO Dhoni > Bevan coz Dhoni can play 2 roles comfortably - 1. guide his team to the finish line by keeping his wkt intact by curbing risky strokes a la Bevan, and 2. hit big if the situation demands it. Bevan was adept at 1 but not the 2nd. Bevan was good at a time when the scores were generally lower - in the 220-250 range, but don't think his game was built to chase high scores we see every other game in 280-320 range. To me Dhoni is Bevan 2.0 with his ability to keep a cool head and also hit out if needed.

Dhoni is much more comparable to Hussey. I think Hussey is a better batsman than Dhoni, but the keeping abilities of Dhoni nails the fact him as a better player.

Mathews has heired this finisher position because Sl don't have finishers. If Kusal Janith and Angelo Perera comes through (who are big hitters), Mathews will move up the order. He is more Kholi esque player than Bevan esque player.

His last ODI was in 2004. Dhoni made debut in 2004. There is not much of a generation gap. Anyway while chasing in winning matches he averages 86. (Bevan). But his strike rate was wmere 66. that is below par even if you think he played in a whole new era. During his time he probably was the best. But nowadays guys like Dhoni, Yuvraj, do a fabulous job.

He has proved to be great finisher for SL.At a young age he is showing so much maturity.SL has found someone similar to MSD atleast for sometime.But he has lot more pressure matches ahead

Along with Chandimal, Mathews will become the backbone of SL's next decade in cricket. Excellent temperament shown by both so far. I am surprised to see SL take this long to make Mathews captain, he will make an excellent on I think.

Perhaps..But Misbah actually has a better average .He also bats at 5 or 6 And Angelo bats at around 6 or 7 Considering that the Pak batting is a big :fail:, Misbah is a better bat. Misbah 103 42.15 74.24 Angelo 76 34.15 83.35 And for sure he wouldnt walk into the Indian side to bat at number 7 :)
