i wanna bet, aussies will get whitewashed, they are very weak,drew with windies,lost at home 4 times to lanka...this english side is alost unbeatable at home, very strong home one day side, aussies stand nowhere in front of them in england.. honestly this england side hasnt done badly abroad as well, won 4-0 vs pak, won 2-1 in saf 2009,won3-2 in windies 09, won 3-2 in last series in lanka 07..only failiures in india and aus,but they have beaten india and aus at home

yes this team is good they even beat south africa at home in odis before on last tour i think team is good bcos batsman are solid enough to make good score and bowling good enough to fight out even par scores and at home there batsman have no weakness really unless some one like steyn blows them away

Of course they would deserve number one if they beat Australia 5-0, that's the way the rankings work. Doesn't mean they would be head and shoulders above the rest, just number one. You a bit slow? It would be great to see us reach the summit in all forms of the game but I can't understand how the International Cricket Council's rankings work. How can we go from fourth to first place in the space of a single series? You will have to ask the ICC that. Only last year we were knocked out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals and lost a series 5-0 in India.

Add the 1-6 loss to Australia as well.

In the last 12 months Won 3-2 vs SL Won 3-0 vs us Lost 0-5 to us Won 4-0 vs Pak Won 3-0 vs WI And if they were to go on to win 5-0 vs the Aus, their record would have read 18-7, plus series wins vs top sides like India and Aus giving them lots of ranking points. Alas, not to be :yay:

I think its because the top 4 teams are so closely placed. Aus 121 SA 118 Ind 117 Eng 115 If India win 5-0 against SL, India have a shot at no.1 ranking as well, i.e if Eng win 3-1 or 4-0.

England, who had won the first two games in the series, needed to win the series 5-0 to become the No. 1 ranked ODI side. They are already the top ranked side in Test and T20 cricket. Australia, the current No. 1 ranked side, were also disappointed as the washout means they can, at best, only draw this series. While gaps between the showers flirted with a large crowd and ensured an exhausting day for the ground staff, the rain never stayed away long enough to allow the outfield and bowlers' run-ups to dry sufficiently from the torrential rain that has fallen across Birmingham in recent weeks. More than 11mm of rain fell on the ground in the 24-hours preceding the scheduled start of the game. Play was finally abandoned just after 6pm, four hours after the scheduled start time. That's one of the issues with the ranking. You don't get extra points for WC games. Like I said on another thread, winning the WC shouldn't make a team number 1 automatically but it should carry more weightage.

The current Australian ODI team has no No.3. They struggle to score against spin bowling. And their batting depth is even concerning the chairman of selectors. In this series, England have highlighted all of these problems with Australia. England have often struggled in limited-overs cricket, but with a near Test team, two white balls and a team that can run through any non subcontinental walls, they have smashed Australia so far in this series.

They could start by picking their best team. Ferguson should be there after such a good start to his career. Marsh had a poor run in tests but has a good ODI record. He made a hundred against Ingerland in the last series he played against them.

Ferguson and Voges should have been in this team. Voges was MOM in his last match and that too against England, after that he was not picked. WTF? And apparently Forrest is playing because they want him to get used to english condition before next year's ashes.
