RK used to play roles like this in every second movie - naive, simple, innocent, lovable, romantic, endures pain with a smile, makes others laugh etc. Shree 420, Anadi, Mera Naam Joker, Jis desh mein ganga behti hai, teesri kasam, aah, aag, Sangam - all similar characters with some different shades. In some of the scenes, Ranbir clearly reminded me of Raj Kapoor of the B&W era.

I watch maybe 6-7 Bollywood movies a year in the theater. I don't have Hindi channel subscription, so the only other chance I get is to catch bits and pieces while visiting some friend or relative. Of I make up a bit for it while visiting India and flipping through channels. EDIT: Even the 6-7 a year figure seems a bit high to me on second thoughts if I look back on last couple of years. More like 3-4.

You will like Barfi (as I heard, haven't seen it yet) if you had watched those. The quality of movies these days is always measured in comparison with the regular fare.

You need to be careful choosing your films if you are that particular. May be films like Wake up sid and Khosla ka ghosla will impress you better.

He has acted very well in movies like New Delhi, Junoon, etc. Raj Kapoor with his perverted showmanship was more famous.

Always smiling, chirpy, can not remember bad performances by him. He was always a pro who did whatever role came his way

These kind of films have more chances to work. Though I would say last year's Oscar sweeper The Artist too took inspiration from other sources.
