Looks like W/L ratio is a key indicator to teams' position. It has the strongest correlation to the rankings. ICC really need to explain the methodology behind their ranking system. No-one knows how the rankings are calculated. Seems like they don't take into account home/away weightings too. Though this was coming for India, an unprecedented two away whitewashes leading to 8-nil is bound to cause a huge dent on India's rankings. So at least it's officially confirmed Indian Test team is now part of lower tier teams along with SL, NZ, WI, and Bangla. Honestly sad day for Indian cricket. PS: The ODI rankings also stinks of bull crap. The World Cup achievement seems to count for nothing.

how did this happen? pak lost to lanka nd so did hey gain points india lost 8-0 in tests agreed, but that was few months ago, recently india havent played any test, so how can pak go above india? just for losing a series against a much lower side lanka by 1-0 ,pak gain on india on rankings? how come

Some of the things I expect to read on both sites in next 24 hours. We are better then India Sachin is not a match winner. IPL is to blame for India sliding down. Pakis have never won in WI. Ajmal chucks. India are FTBs. Ranking are the best things since sliced bread. Rankings suck, no one understands them.

With annual update, results before August 2009 were not considered for rankings. When results before Aug 2009 were factors Pakistan was below India. Say if results were excluded few months back only then Pakistan might have been at 3 and India at 5

many here are saying- dont worry, we`ll be back in top 3 after the recent series later this year, but will we really win those series? why the overconfidence? although one positive thing is, we`ll be #5 nd hopefully eng will be #1 nd aus #2 or 3... so if i assume we`ll win those series (which by the way appears very difficult now :(( ) ,we`ll gain a lot of points
