They were 5th or 6th when result before 2009 was taken into account. If those results were removed even before England series in UAE they might have already been ahead of us.

But during that period, Pak hasn't played any series against top side apart from SA Which ended in a draw. They would have gather some points there but after that they played against the likes of Zim and BD which wouldn't have put them 5 points ahead of us.

Indian view is retarded. So what if our bowlers are quicker. Doesn't help take 20 wickets as such on its own. Test wickets are much much harder to get than that.

Slide and current ranking fully deserved IMO. A team which loses 2 consecutive series 0-4 doesn't deserve to be in the top half. Maybe now BCCI and Messers Srinivasan, Rajiv Shukla & Srikkanth will figure out that something is indeed wrong and maybe having an enquiry into the 0-8 debacle isn't so far fetched. Maybe it will also embolden the selectors to drop Laxman and maybe have a chat with SRT about his future plans and how he needs to be phsed out within a year for the betterment of the team.

They did well to beat England and gained 9 points. I am not debating who is better, I just want to show how Eng series has helped Pak move ahead of India. And ofcourse India were crap during this period has also helped but had Pak lost the series against Eng they would still been behind India. That's why I said that beating Eng has helped them move ahead 5 points. The minnow like performance by India on last 2 tours, I am not surprised that we are down to number 5.

I am sure we will be able to beat Pakis coz we present a match-up nightmare for them. Pakis' strength is their spin bowling which doesn't worry us and they don't have the pacers to trouble us like Eng or Aus did. But overall I agree with Vijay - the overall ranking is not based on just head-to-head but how the team does against ALL opponents and I suspect Pakis' bowling attack will cause more trouble for most of the Test nations than ours. Plus I am a firm believer in "you are what your record/ranking says you are". India will have their chances to improve in the upcoming Eng & Aus tours at home and let's see what we do.

I don't disagree and as I've already mentioned we present a bad matchup for Pakis. But overall ranking is still correct. We don't deserve anything better after 0-8 and the manner of losses.

We play Eng & Aus at home in the next year and a half so it's in our hands to rise up the ranks. I expect India to be in the top 3 before we start touring away. After that it all depends on how we managed the transition. If likes of Laxman and Tendulkar play on till just before the away series, we will be in for some serious hammerings.
