Recently we witnessed KP's innings.. Please share your favorite counter attacking innings you have witnessed? There must be so many in the history Astle's 222 (albeit in losing cause) Gilly's many centuries.. share yours.. i'll start mine One of the most memorable was Sachin/Azhar partnership was counter attack at capetown when they were 43/5. Another one Azhar's 102 in 74 balls at Eden gardens.

Does Sehwag's knock of 80 odd in 60 something balls in the Chennai Test (2008) against England qualify? He kick-started the chase of 387 in the 4th innings and was a special knock.

yea.. that was a telling blow from those two.

Even's Gilchrists 200 (it was the fastest 100 and he almost won a bar of gold with a six) was quite counter attacking. Another one I know is Michael Slater in the Ashes.

Unfortunately, you will have very few openers who have "counter attacked" because the topic means the bowlers have some sort of upper hand. I wouldn't put it as counter attacking but a great knock none the less.

But in this case batting last in 4th innings on days 4 & 5 with highest target ever in India for a successful chase(387), that knock took the initiative away from England and made an Indian victory a distinct possibility.
