Is Ravikant really that good and phast? He looks too frail for me :idunno: A bit wayward too, and has got somewhat hammered in all matches.
not phast.. 130k avg can bowl over 135 he has bowled some beauties ... also if u go by figures keep in mind he has bowled at death and in middle of innings with older ball

He definitely was pretty good, other than a penchant for bowling no balls that is. He bowled 1st change and not with the new ball and always tooks wkts and never letting the pressure off th batsmen. One of the reasons he had comparatively poor figures was as the batsmen were trying to attack him after losing wkts early. Second reason was the 2-4 no-balls Ravikant bowled every match and the free-hits being hammered for boundaries. In a low scoring match couple of boundaries and runs off no-balls make 10 runs which is nearly 25% of the runs conceded, i.e. 2/32 suddenly become 2/42 off 10.
Its not fair to rate these youngsters right now when their games are still evolving.
I am simply rating based on the performance in the World Cup, and not for future. They may as well improve or go south from here.

@Sabby agree. He will certainly pick up his pace as Ishant did. Even Ishant was 130 bowler at the start. He looks to be an all weather bowler.
Yeah and look at Ishant now. Batsmen actually draw cards to face him

Thats a different thing. Our fast bowlers are destined for that. Ravikant has better basic action and approach than Ishant.

if u dont want to rate bowlers yet then dont even rate unmukt or harmeet cos even they havent done anything special in first class cricket yet...use same criteria for everyone if u can judge potential of unmukt from this cup then u can judge ravi's potential too... now tht does not mean he will fullfill it and become good bowler but thts true for chand as well

Harmeet Singh, Unmukt Chand should be tried in ODIs. Mandeep Singh should be tried too in ODIs (did very well in Australia U-19 tour few years back so he suceeds on all pitches). Harmeet Singh and Bhaji or Ashwin would make a good duo along with Yuvraj for support. Rahul Sharma should be back up, Uday Kaul back up Wk. These are the changes I want in ODI team.

^:WTF: Also how could I miss Sandeep Sharma. I didn't watch all U-19 games except end of final but looking at his profile he looks impressive, he should also be tried. Also heard he swings both ways. For SC ODI's Sandeep (swing, couldn't be worse than PK) Harmeet (Ojha more of a Test player) Bhaji/Ashwin Umesh/Ishant (pace)

prashant chopra was the mohammad hafeez of U19, minus the bowling, who only scored against minnow. with so much tailunt and with all his strokes, faced west indies, pakistan, Australia but never crossed single digit.he deserve no more than 6. rest is good, nice read !

The amount of cricket we play we need to have a deep bench and the only way to do that is to play youngsters when given a chance. Sandeep Sharma is a slower version of PK. But if he can add a couple of yards of pace as he progresses to senior cricket and doesn't lose the ability to swing the ball he will be an invaluable asset for us.

Prashant was our top scorer in the semis against NZ and managed to score 3 50s when openers from teams such as Aus failed to barely score even 100 runs collectively thrugh the tourney.

tri series after ipl' date=' wi and our favorite punching bags lanka.[/quote'] Ideal time to send a younger squad. Even if we win the tri-series it wouldn't serve much purpose. Better to send in the fringe players and youngsters to see who are worth investing in for the future and can add to our bench strength. Sending the likes of Dhonis, Sehwags, Gambhirs, Yuvis, Zaheers etc. wouldn't serve any purpose whatsoever. Even if we lose the tri-series but unearth 2 players who show they belong at intl level, the tourney would have served its purpose.

50 against papua new Guinea and zimbabwe. hardly anything to be excited about no matter what the track is.

Well the same Zim team against which we struggled to do anything once Chopra & Chand departed. We were 139/0 in 26 overs and then struggled to 237/6 in 49 overs before Passi hit a few in the last over. look at any team and you will see that openers had a pretty poor time of it even against minnows. Plus Chopra didn't get the luxury of batting at another venue, he played all his games at Townsville which was the hardest venue to bat on.

rsd2bl.gif He should bulk up a bit and focus on power training. Would give him an extra 5ks or so. Whats his avg speed? Guessing 120 if hes slower than PK.
Sandeep was in low 120s. When PK came into the team and used to swing the ball he was in late 120s. There's a difference of around 5-8 kph between the two. Let's see if he can add pace and if he can bowl well with the old ball as well. if he can't do much with the old ball he will end up as a odi specialist bowling with the new ball.
