Rahane to miss out against England?

I feel sorry for this guy. I don't see him getting a chance against England if Raina & Rohit are picked for the Test series. He wouldn't get enough shots to prove himself in the World T20 either..and again because of a Rohit or Raina. Hurts to see a player averaging over 60 in FC warming up in the bench when a player such as Raina gets gazillion of shots and still fails. These guys gave Yuvraj a second chance in Test cricket for crying out loud. I really doubt that Virat would have got a chance in Test if Raina was picked in the test series against Aussies. If Rahane fails to score in his first Test, he might not see or dream himself in whites for India again. But if most of the so called ODI "hard hitters" fail in a Test or may be 10-15 of them, they still get a chance in the Playing XI. Can't really blame the selectors anymore. I don't mind or care about Dhoni's field settings or his batting in Test cricket..the worst part is his biased selection in players. As far as I am concerned..its the worst part of him as a Test captain. If he fails to score after 3-4 Test matches then drop him and consider someone else but give him a chance to prove himself FFS!! :hitler:

Rohith Sharma won't be a bad option really...even he averages over 60 in first class! But going by Dhoni's post match conference, I don't think Raina will be excluded from the playing XI against England! :(

I don't see him getting a shot either. He might have failed in the A tour but was the next best Batsman after Pujara but he failed in the ODIs :dontknow:

I think Raina got more than his share of chances that he deserved. Its time we groom some of our youngsters instead. Anyways, Raina is not getting any younger. Whatever technical flaws he has, are going to be there and won't go away anywhere. What I fear is that he might score a few runs (even a century) against English and Aussies in India, only to be found out in our next set of away tours. The bad thing in this scenario will be that our youngsters will have no experience of tests whatsover and we can't simply expect them to perform in Sa and Eng straight away.

I think he would still be in the scheme of things and would get his due. We all saw how Raina was dropped after the 1st test in SA for Pujara. He would surely get his due. And this wrist slitting is something that I can't understand. On the Oz tour, people were craving for rohit ahead of Kohli and now Kohli is the new super-hero. Why is it that the guy on the bench is always touted to be the best player in the team?

my problem with benching the player is .. that he is not doing anything.. why isnt he selected for a tour to new zealand? maybe he will score runs and force himself into team .. and will also prove himself before tests..

Yes and no. The fact that he already has been a part of the squad means that he surely is in the mix. Moreover, being in the squad also gives you a lot of knowledge and insights. We all saw how Tiwary who was being benched for son long, suddenly started getting games in SL. But, you are right in a way that if Rahane does not play at all, then he might actually fall short of match practice.

staying with team is overated.. he will get invaluable experince of playing in new zealand in tough conditions.. in nets wht will he gain ? i dont buy this staying with team thing..last two occasions he stayed in bench he lost form took him 4-5 first class games to get back in touch

That's what I said, he should have gone to NZ. and I don't know what makes you feel that staying with the team is over rated. It certainly helps in many ways but as I said, at the expense of serious match-practice.

Domestic games will be telecast in one of the ESPN channels. Star Cricket/Sports or ESPN.
i cant wait i hope wicket is good (this is genuine concern at this level)

rahane is domestic run machine, number 5 is too low for him, he should/will get tendu's spot. i dont think rahane himself feels sad in time he will have the biggest shoes to fill.

The only reason why yuvraj and now raina have played so many test is because they are lefties, i don't really see any other reason, selectors obviously want a leftie at 6.
