Brainfade Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 :giggle: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/05/just-in-democrats-to-update-platform-with-jerusalem-reference/?hpt=hp_t1 (CNN) - Democrats voted to update their party's platform Wednesday evening at their convention to include a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, as well as the insertion of the word "God," neither of which was included in their platform this year but was in previous platforms. President Barack Obama himself intervened regarding the Jerusalem language, a senior Democratic source told CNN, adding, that he thought the original draft was "a strong statement and he didn't want there to be any confusion about his unshakeable commitment to the security of state israel. The issue of the day is Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah." The change, proposed by former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland immediately after the convention was gaveled into order on Wednesday, required a two-thirds voice vote, but was declared as adopted after three voice votes which brought delegates to their feet, shouting their yeas and nays. Democratic sources told CNN prior to the vote that it was to take place by acclamation. "I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the values we've expressed in our party's platform," Strickland, who chaired the party's platform committee, read. "In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and our party's platform should as well. " Say what? Gotta love the hypocrisy of Dems now wanting to cling to God, all of a sudden. Moreover, IIRC, Mitt pitched the Jerusalem capital idea in his speech in Israel and caught flak for being a warhawk! Shoe-meet-other-foot .. what a complete trainwreck this DNC is turning out to be.
Prakat Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Obama trying to get away with atheist platform in America. :hehe:
punjabi_khota Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Well you can't win without God in America. You can however, win without believing that Earth was made 6000 years ago, and men played kabbadi with dinosaurs. See the difference, Mr. scientist ? :hahaha:

Clarke Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Not needed, they should've simply stuck to supporting Israel blah blah without mentioning God as a marketing platform. Tell u what, the real test for Dems shall be if Israel does indeed do something about Iran before Nov, and its not easy to rule that out. The Repubs have always been unequivocal about their support while this President might have to prove that.
Prakat Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 ^ the two aren't that disconnected. The religious right has shaped America's foreign policy around Israel.
1983-2011 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 were they supposed to do "I" and "Nai" 3 times or were they really trying to pass that motion? Who the f**k is USA to decide what capital of Israel will be!!!
1983-2011 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 by including GOD, aren't they pandering to conservative (dont want to use word fundamentalist as used by some) christians? what about atheists then?
G_B_ Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Look at the state in question the swing state of Ohio. It consists of many working class blue collar white American people who vote for the Democrats for economic reasons (unions etc). But are socially conservative. People need to realise some can be economically conservative or liberal and socially conservative liberal. They fall on both sides of the parties. Most Jews vote democrat anyways. Prior to Kennedy most of the red belt southern states used to vote democrat. The reason is poor white working class adults needed government support. The same people voted on social issues when the civil rights movement took hold and Kennedy and johnson passed those resolutions. Ironically Califorania was the bastion of Republicans back then. How times change....
