Actually from I know Duryodhana was not that bad but was mislead from the start. Drithrashtra always favored him over the Pandavas and it was no secret that he wanted Duryodhana to be his successor. Then there was Shakuni who, for reasons you mentioned, was always goading him and was usually the brains behind the schemes against Pandavas. Also, Bhishma and Drona both favored the Pandavas so this also fueled the fire in case of Duryodhana. Well being mislead is one thing ,but humiliating ur brothers wife in front of whole gathering is another ,I agree that draupadi shouldn't have said andhay ka putra andha,but that doesn't justify his behaviour .bhisma and drona were bounded by there oath and duty respectively ,u can call them helpless rather than an antihero ,I will say another anti hero in Mahabharata was bhisma's uncle brihadbala ,the elder brother of shantanu ,he was slain by bhima coz he requested him that he don't want to fight under duryodhan,in Ramayana I would say marich ,indrajit and kumbhakarna they knew they are fighting the almighty and tried to warn ravan ,even ravana knew the very moment ram has slain khar and dushan that rana was avatar of narayan ,he wanted moksha for himself and his family that's why he kidnapped the shadow of sita coz the real sita was under shelter of Agni

To call two of the five greatest warriors of that time coward is seriously shocking ,did they knew such circumstances will arrive in future for us breaking promise is no big deal but for them it really was big deal how many of you can be brahmchari for ur life for ur father's marriage and these guys were so powerful that only tridev's can beat them,even Kansa ,jarasandh,narkasura and banasura were scared to face bhisma and drona in battle.

Otherwise of course the both of them are among the greatest warriors.
