I remember about 2 years ago the MotoGP races were shown on both Ten Sports and Neo Sports - two different networks having the rights to one tournament. So I guess in case of Espn-Star splitting, either both will have the rights or one will buy the others' share in the rights to have exclusive telecast rights. Also, currently they have lots and lots of content - Indian cricket (both the international team and domestic cricket), Champions League (both the ODIs and IPL ones) and World Cups in cricket, La Liga, EPL, Serie A, FI, Wimbledon, Australian Open, Olympics (2016) and both the groups (Espn and Star) have deep pockets so they can buy each others' stake in the rights. AFAIK, ESPN-Star venture has ended or atleast it in it's cooling off period. So, I am not exactly sure how exactly would the things pan out in the future. All the events you listed are co-owned by the venture.

Does Star by extension of having bought the TV broadcast rights, also own full copyright of the reporting of India matches by anyone in the public domain?

When a broadcaster (like STAR) signs a deal with a home cricket board (like BCCI) for exclusive rights to a cricket game, we know that they pay for several rights, including but not limited to capturing a live video feed using their own cameras. So for example, you and your buddies cannot take a hi-res camera, mount it on a tripod behind the side-screen and do a simulcast of the game, live via the internet. If this is not allowed, then how is doing a ball-by-ball commentary of a cricket game ok? Especially when sites like cricbuzz operate on a clear for-profit basis? I think a lot could come down to the ambit of what is the extent of the intellectual property that the broadcaster buys the rights for. For the record, I personally hope sites like cricbuzz can continue to do what they do. Free information is the backbone of a creative society. IP laws, more than anything else, stifle creative thought.

Wondering why some match reports are live whereas others are delayed due to court ruling.I think the SouthAfrica - OZ test match report was live yesterday.Don't see the legal notification now as well on that scorecard.

Any sport/game' date=' anywhere in the world.[/quote'] The only reason of having such rights can be to reduce competition.Firstly, they don't have telecast rights and secondly they don't have rights over scores for 15 minutes.That means the traffic to their website will be less.it will affect their advertisement based revenue and divert the traffic to Star websites which can legally broadcast live commentary scores etc.

However, whatever the reasons for the delay of their own broadcast , they will still try to reduce competition. Just for instance, once i noticed that India U-19 WC match score updates were delayed by 15 mins, i did not visit cricinfo fpr next 10 minutes because it did not serve my purpose.Imagine millions of cricket fans seeing no reason to visit the website every next minute.It means a lot probably to sites like cricinfo/cricbuzz etc and works in Stars favor.
