VRV Singh Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 How does Gambhir compare to other test openers? It would be interesting to see that from Jan 2010 as well actually (think this was his last Test century). Not good reading?
Gunner Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Do we need three spinners? :dontknow: Ideally, No. But as the pitches will most probably assist turn and the English weakness against spin, I wouldn't be surprised if MSD goes in with a spin-heavy attack.
Crookbond Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Ideally' date=' No. But as the pitches will most probably assist turn and the English weakness against spin, I wouldn't be surprised if MSD goes in with a spin-heavy attack.[/quote'] Two spinners is a spin heavy attack - the last pitch I remember assisting spin was against SA 2010 at Kanpur and we still went in with 2 spinners [0]. Playing three spinners is not advisable as your third spinner does not have many overs to fill in. Those overs could be easily filled in by Sehwag and Yuvraj or someone else who can roll his arm over. [0] http://www.espncricinfo.com/indvrsa/engine/current/match/332913.html

Lord Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Should be Harbhajan Singh if he's in good form. only if he stops darting at first sight of aggression by batsmen, that works in LOIs,not in tests,he was dropped for some reason n I'm not sure hes improved on that,I'd rather give young Harpreet a chance or Rahul for variety

Lord Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I think he has stopped darting of what I saw in the T20 - Harpreet is not really a variety if we have Ojha. true.I meant Rahul mainly provides variety wheras Harpreet looks a very good bowler anyway. about Bhajji, did u see him in warmup game,he was darting.he didnt against England coz they allowed him to bowl

Crookbond Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 havent seen Dhoni using Sehwag much apart from that Delhi test.he should. anyway I dont see that happening anytime soon:giggle: In a Test match he does use him - 2010 Kanpur Test match vs South Africa he used him too. Btw, I think Kumble was the captain and on the field when Sehwag was bowling in the Delhi 2008 Test match and not MS Dhoni. :D

Crookbond Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 May be you are right but I'm not sure too. Here are his wickets - even a front line spinner will looking at these wickets. EA0xFR42gd4

Crookbond Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Look at the drift, rip and turn - damn even Jimmy Hoffa would have have come out of oblivion to congratulate him.
kubrickian Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Look at the drift' date=' rip and turn - damn even Jimmy Hoffa would have have come out of oblivion to congratulate him.[/quote'] That was some time ago. He was bowling regularly around then. Dhoni hasnt been asking him to bowl regularly anymore after the shoulder injury he had. He could have been useful in ODIs and T20 at least. I certainly wouldnt count him now as a bowling option in tests.
Lord Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Look at the drift' date=' rip and turn - damn even Jimmy Hoffa would have have come out of oblivion to congratulate him.[/quote'] thats wat Bhajji wasnt doing n Ashwin sort of does.the Ponting n Hussey wickets were class:hail: another thing I noted how virtually all team ran to congratulate him.doesnt happen now. or am I looking too much

rkt.india Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Yadav shouldnt be playing against England, cant give free runs like he did against NZ, would like PK better.
