diga Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 ^ lot of implications... we are more prone to any global jitters on crude now.Lets see how this move pans out once crude starts increasing
Crookbond Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Wasn't the deregulation expected around this time? Theoretically, diesel was "deregulated" in 2010 but the prices did not reflect the market and the govt wanted to cut some losses. I think they were waiting for the rupee to appreciate and/or the international crude oil prices to fall.
Precambrian Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Great timing to deregulate diesel prices... Can only feel sorry for the opposition...

Crookbond Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Fortune favors the brave and the willing  The "brave and willing" UPA govt deregulated diesel prices.
Precambrian Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014  The "brave and willing" UPA govt deregulated diesel prices. Yes never denied that. But whatever good they did was too little too late and not an iota of what ills they did
diga Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014  The "brave and willing" UPA govt deregulated diesel prices. Ohh yes Petrol and diesel prices were deregulated in April 2002 when the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power. But administered pricing regime made a back-door entry in 2004 with UPA Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar pushing for control on diesel, LPG and kerosene prices. - See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/business/business-others/diesel-deregulated-prices-cut-by-rs-3-37-a-litre/#sthash.Y3Qja24U.dpuf
diga Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Oh this is news for me. even for me.. until a wiki expert, better than some of them here showed me this :--D
gattaca Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 This a good move. Most of the countries have this where prices at the pump are linked and fluctuate daily based on crude oil prices. Brings in more transparency. Above article goes to shows congress is still stuck in the socialist policies.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 BJP govt. deregulated diesel prices not UPA.
seedhi Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014  The "brave and willing" UPA govt deregulated diesel prices. No, it was NDA govt which started the deregulation of oil prices first. The UPA went back to the administered price mechanism.

seedhi Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Most of those countries also do not impose as many taxes on oil as we have in India. The taxes (and the price of petrol) are quite high in Europe also. Among the developed west, US and Canada are among the few places where the price is relatively low.
Crookbond Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 No' date=' it was NDA govt which started the deregulation of oil prices first. gattaca Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Most of those countries also do not impose as many taxes on oil as we have in India. India's problem is generation of oil. US gets from other countries :winky: or generates on it own. Most of the countries like England and canada are part of NATO they get oil too like US so the price is less in these places. We need to find a way around this may be like what china does approach some African countries and pay up the government and extract oil/ resources.

Straight Drive Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 The lower is the crude oil price, better it is for Indian economy.

Issue is private companies like Reliance who are extracting oil from Indian resources also selling it according to International prices. They are in huge profits. While govt. companies are forced to export it.
