He has done little for India A and his First Class record is closer to average than good. He is in mediocre form and has never formed for North Zone or India A. Suyal has just started his First Class career and so would be a rash selection. Moreover, he hasn't torn things up this year like in his first two seasons... Pankaj has a good long First Class career which shows fitness and consistency. He is also in good form at the moment. This is something that people far too often disregard.

People shouldn't look at overall numbers, but what a bowler has done recently in the relevant format (last 2-3 full seasons, not just the last year). Ryan Harris used to be a medium pacer but got a lot quicker a few years back. He played for South Australia up until 2008/9 and took 67 wickets at 37.00. That bowler would not have been a good Test bowler. He moved to Queensland in 2008/9 and some time near then developed the ability to bowl about 10kph quicker. For them, he has taken 70 wickets at 22.42. This is the Ryan Harris that is a very good Test bowler. Indeed, most bowlers don't improve as much as Harris did, so he is somewhat of a statistical anomaly, but he really does help prove my case nicely. I hate it when people used to cite Zaheer Khan as someone with an average First Class record who is a great Test bowler because, during the period where he was a great bowler, he would have absolutely tore Ranji teams apart. The fact is that when he played most of his FC cricket, he was only an okay bowler.

Recently Awana too has done very good, second highest wicket taker last year he was, doing well this year that is when he is coming back from an injury, 21 wickets in 5 matches at 24. Regarding his A tour, he did not get much chacnes in A tours. He might or might not be successul but we cannot predict who will fail who not, specially in these conditions most will fail. In India, most pacers in recent years succeeded initially who had pace and made good use of reverse swing like Munaf and Umesh in their debut series. Otherwise, it is very hard for debutants to be successful in India against strong battting sides on these flat tracks.
