vvvslaxman Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 There's a reason for the cap on foreign players. 4 out of 11 is reasonable. It's still an Indian team that plays the majority of it's matches in India and has a mainly Indian squad. The higher the level of the IPL gets, the better exposure domestic players will get. Let them do something good at the international level . They will have the support. Thsi is not an international match. This is club match regardless of how many INdians play. Only reasons 4 IPL teams play because Indian viewership drive the tournament. Otherwise Just 1 or 2 teams are good enough to be part of this CL. why would you include 3rd placed/4th placed teams in the championship tournametn and expect support.
Zap_Brannigan Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 why would you include 3rd placed/4th placed teams in the championship tournametn and expect support. UEFA does that. I dont see pitch forks out for that.
vvvslaxman Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 UEFA does that. I dont see pitch forks out for that. Because has football has for too many clubs and also Lot of countries have 4 clubs representing. England, Spain, Germany, .. In this.. India has 4 clubs.. SA/OZhave just 2 . Why not 3 each . They are pulling all stops to see atleast one IPL team getting to final. They might as well cancel this and have IPL second edition.
jairamesh Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 No it is not an achievement for Indian cricket. Fact that each team has 4 foreign players mean you are not an Indian side. It is a club team from India. Infact no team is authentic except sydney sixers. Lions had Tanvir and Nannes. :orderorder: not true, Chakkas had Saffer runaway Englishman Michael Lumb. Infact in the entire tourney only Horses and Trini had "pure" teams.
Desi Cartman Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 CLT20 is a borefest and no one gives a crap about it. Having said that,I must admit that "Mumbai got fecked by de kock " and I thoroughly enjoyed it

In UEFA, there are 3 strong leagues, so they have a few more than others. Similarly, IPL is the strongest and they get to have 4. Cricket is played by 8 countries and not 30 EU countries. FIFA WC has a lot more slots for EU teams than any other for the same reason. This is to have as many games with IPL as possible. This is clear and is an open information. Nobody denies that. This was demanded by star and so was having a pak team. I see a lot of people questioning that. I see them as hypocrites. Did you criticize the ICC for what they have done to appease star or ECB to appease sky? 2007 WC was held in morning so that they could reach India at a more convenient time. The format changed in 2011 (to a horrible one) so that India will still be alive in the tournament for atleast 75% of tournament. They wanted to cut out the minnows and change the format again so that India will get atleast 8 games in the next WC. Do the same people questions these actions ? Everybody wants India and without 4 IPL teams, star would not make a profit from the billion dollars it paid for this tournament. Without that billion, this tournament will not take place. In order to survive, this is the way CL has to be. Now before you ask CL to change, ask ICC, whose actual job is to not discriminate, change.
vvvslaxman Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 In that case include every single IPL team and eliminate teams from Newzealand/West Indies/pakistan. That way we are dead cert to see an IPl team making a final.

Ashes every 2 years, T20 WC every few months, champions trophy, now a test championship, ICC banning multi team tournaments...everyone wants the same thing.
Trichromatic Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Grow up guys. We should support the IPL teams to do well in the CL' date=' because it would be an achievement for Indian cricket. Save the rivalry for the IPL season.[/quote'] Yeah, we shouldn't lose patriotism. :giggle:
vvvslaxman Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Yeah' date=' we shouldn't lose patriotism. :giggle:[/quote'] Actually amount of bickering between Indian fans over this CL is anything but patriotic. You only have to visit their respective facebook pages.

UEFA has just 4 English teams out of 32 teams in group stage and that too based on performance in previous season.CLT20 has 4 out of teams based on economic reasons.Rubbish comparison
Zap_Brannigan Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 UEFA has just 4 English teams out of 32 teams in group stage and that too based on performance in previous season.CLT20 has 4 out of teams based on economic reasons.Rubbish comparison Yeah 50+ countries fighting for 32 spots but a few leagues get to include 4 teams. They have the resources and time to find an acceptable solution on weeding out bad teams. CL started with having 2 teams from top 4 leagues ie. from India, Aus, Eng and SA and 1 each from the other 4. But consistent bad performance by teams from NZ and SL resulted for bad cricket and viewing. Then they changed it to qualifying stages. So yeah, in a way, CL is also determined by past performance. By looking at the competition and teams, it is an educated guess that most of the IPL teams are better than the best teams other countries put up. Since we dont have a proper inter club tournament, we can only go by this. Even UEFA and FIFA WC in no way have the best 32/24 teams playing. I am pretty sure some EU teams that doesnt qualify are better than an South american side that does and some African sides that qualifies are worse than some asian teams. But why does FIFA do this and not select the top 24? Because securing sides from all over the world means more money.
JourneyMan Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 The format is reasonable enough, considering that the IPL is hands down the biggest T20 league out there. Besides, some of these teams had to qualify didn't they? (I didn't follow the qualifying rounds so I might be wrong). At the end of the day, the teams that play well will win, regardless of whether you put in 4 IPL teams or only 2.
shortbread Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 MI need a better spinner, someone who can switch between choking runs or attack. Similar to the role Narine or Ashwin play, even Phangiso for the lions. Bhajji is more of a liability now.
