Balaji, who led Tamil Nadu to the final of the Ranji Trophy last season, has been retained captain by the State selectors for the opening Group B match against Odisha at Cuttack from November 2. The line-up includes R. Ashwin, IndiaÃÔ current lead spinner, and batting mainstay S. Badrinath, who was part of the national squad during its last Test series, against New Zealand. Dinesh Karthik, M. Vijay, and Abhinav Mukund are the others to have played at the highest level. Vijay and Mukund, however, face the possibility of a weekÃÔ continuous cricket, for they are in the India â squad scheduled to play the touring England side from October 30 to November 1 in Mumbai. The new faces in the 16-man team are seamer M. Mohammed, who was among the wickets in the Buchi Babu and Moin-ud-Dowla tournaments, leg-spinner M. Ashwin, and reserve wicketkeeper R. Rohith. Now only if Praveen Kumar be appointed captain of UP team and Irfan Pathan of Baroda, we can claim "pacers" rule in indian domestic cricket.

RP Singh did captain UP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year.

We have the batting to come out on top in tough bowling conditions but dont think we have the bowling to take 20 wkts in flat wkts.Thats why i would prefer bowling wkts in chennai. As foor 5 bowlers hopefully Aparajith can emerge as a true all rounder to to solve the 5th bowler issue.We did try him couple of times last season with minimal success. Who is R Rohith? Has he come through the India Cements quota? No idea

Apart from Karthik who can hold bat in tough conditions, all are real FTBs.

TN always end up with high scoring draws when we play in flat wickets.We won against Bengal when there was something in it for seamers and nearly won against Delhi (only bad light saved Delhi) was a seamers paradise. Even the semi final gainst Mumbai last season it helped seamers quite a bit and we were put into bat by Mumbai.Yet we comfortably outbatted them. Yet in final when we played in flat wkt lost to Rajastan.

Recall on a few occasions he was the only one to make a score while the rest failed.
