SRT got the highest score for India in this game out of the batsman, he is not the problem.. everyone else is! Tough selection decisions need to be made players cannot be persisted with for 1yr+ when they are out of form, it is not good for them or the team. Just look at someone like Dada who was dropped (unfairly) but went away and made one of the greatest comebacks and retired on a high having been one of our best batsman v Aus. The depth of our squad is worse than Bangladesh, that IS the selectors fault for wasting places by picking the likes of UV, RPS and Raina in tests and not giving players chances.
Great post.

So far series avg. Pujara - 103 Ashwin - 53 Gambhir - 43 Sehwag - 42 Yuvi - 25 Sachin - 22 Dhoni - 18. Bottom 3 to go. Also add Sachin's poor performance in NZ series. Will give you clear picture that Sachin is not unfairly targeted. Worst batsman in the team clinging on the most pivotal position. As for mentoring youngsters, Yuvraj has been there since ages with Sachin, Rahul, Laxman.. nothing happened.

Never said he was...As I have said many times....having at least one experienced player in the squad is important but it is our misfortune that he has failed. It is not unfair to criticize SRT for his failures but one has to be a blind hater to say that he is the responsible for dragging the team down which I see is a lot of popular opinion on this forum. Even if he was averaging around 30 like he did in Eng and Aus which is low by the high standard he set for himself.,If that was the case, that wouldn't have been a bad idea to keep him, especially when the likes of Dravid and Laxman retired...but he hasn't been able to manage that also...The problem has been the overall middle order and not SRT alone.

both. dhoni the test player sucks like no one else.
He is a decent keeper and we over-expect from his batting...he was never a gilchrist to begin with...thats what we expect him to be....There might be 1-2 better keepers in Domestics than him and 1-2 better batsmen playing in a wk role, but overall he is still the best option we got. May be getting out of captaincy might just help him :dontknow:

Right. A 39 year old on the last legs of his already overstretched career, who has hit a 50 after nearly 12 months, who in the last 18 months has done nothing, he should not be discussed but everything else about the team should be? That would be quite a wonderful way to start rebuilding a new team.

Team consists about 11 individuals each divided and classified into different roles...kicking out or even discussing about one individual with one specific role fixes everything right?

And who is saying only SRT is the problem? There are threads calling for heads of Gauti, Viru, Zaheer..Dhoni is perhaps the most hated cricketer in India right now and rightly so. In the past too, RD, VVS, Bhajji have all had numerous threads panning them but all hell breaks loose if the talk goes to Sachin holding this team back. Wonder why. He is a part of the problem and his absolute unwillingness to go up or down from his number 4 position is an even bigger hurdle IMO.

This I agree only from the perspective that it might be a good strategy to say play him at No 6...dont know if that has been discussed before so cannot jump to conclusions about his unwillingness.,He can be used to plug our on-going problem for some time. As I said even if he performs at an average of 30 over the next couple of series and plays around the newcomers it will do more good than harm...if this is not planned already an exit strategy must be developed asap but suddenly dumping him will be a disaster in many ways as discussed above

So, now we should keep a top order batsman if he can average 30 and "play around youngsters"? :hysterical: How long is going to stay in the middle to "play around youngsters" and to "groom" them? What did all the "grooming" do to Yuvraj and Raina? Turn them into Sobers?

That is because a)they don't have what it takes to play at the test level b)the seniors themselves have been in pathetic form.so how can you help someone when you find yourself in the line of fire. as far as your other question goes.....yes,having a team filled with rookies and youngsters and all of a sudden becoming aworld-beaters is just a fantasy that sounds good like a fairytale..doesn't work in the real world.

I think Sachin needs to move down the order for the time being.that'll put him under less pressure n give more opportunity to guys like Kohli.if he still cant perform there in Aus series, sack him

If you still pick Tendulkar it should be at 6 to hide him more- he can become more attritional and bat with the tail (an important and underated job). He wouldn't make many other teams on current form though.

Ponting had a worse run of form than SRT even though he had the likes of Clarke,Hussey,Watson still playing....there must be some rationale to it that teams give their seniors an extended run.

And Tendulkar is in some red hot form now, that he will be able to groom and play around with the youngsters? If anything his form has gone even more pathetic. Where did I say anything about rookies and youngsters suddenly becoming world beaters? It's going to take time, but keeping Tendulkar in the side for grooming and playing around them is not going to help either. He can do all the grooming and playing around with them on the sides as a batting consultant if it's really that important.
