virufan Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 He is not good in ODIs because at the position that he comes to bat, he needs to accelerate but he is not capable of that. In tests, we need to try him but he is not an attacking bowler.

A poster on the other thread said rightly that he should mould himself into an accumulator as he can not really accelerate with big hitting, for that he needs to bat higher- but he cant dislodge any of our middle order bats. And batting him at 8 means effectively he is playing as a specialist bowler and I know he is a good fielder but even taking that into account Im not sure he can bat so low. Ojha should play instead, he is not the fittest but a good ltd overs bowler. JAdejas limiations as a test bat will also hit him in ODIs especially away from home.

Let's try and put him at 8 or 9 and hide him! The guy has one fricking scoring shot. Otherwise he is just going to come in with 10rpo needed and just rotate strike with the tail, probably run a couple of them out in the meantime and get to a FIGHTING FIFTY in yet another losing cause. This is a dead horse and India keeps flogging it. His bowling will by nature always be susceptible to a battering like we have seen from Warner and Watson, SC or not SC.

But if people are going to bring that up constantly then just have him as 12th man. You could actually make similar cases for Saha, Manoj Tiwary, Rahane and Nohit (when not in the team).

Although I feel he will do well with the ball in this series, but in the long term it will take us nowhere.

Remember the first game against Pak at Chennai where India was defending 227. 5th bowling option(Yuvi/Raina) gave away 77 runs and that's where the game was lost. If Jadeja had been in the side, he would have done decently. Yuvraj is not doing great at the moment and one specialist bowler is bound to have a bad day in ODIs. So its important to have that extra option. You have to take whatever runs he scores because he is bowling well at the moment and fielding very well. On flat batting tracks in ODIs, we need these type of players as wicket taking bowlers will be ineffective.
