Yes, this is yet another micro analysis of their stats. So you are forewarned. I just wanted to compare the performances of these 4 chaps against the best teams of their generation. Now someone like Sachin has played over probably 2 or 3 generations. Hence I have looked at two blocs - one preceding 2000s and one post it. Best bowling teams in the 80s and 90s: Australia Pakistan South Africa West Indies Best bowling teams since 2000s Australia England South Africa I omitted Sri Lanka because of the fact that they were basically a one-man army and also due to the huge divergence in home and away performances. Let's see the stats: Sachin

Now just to clarify : Coefficient is a measure of how good the bowling attack was. It is a simple calculation. The world bowling average of the respective periods divided by the bowling average of the individual opposition. Eg - South Africa's bowling average during the 1990s were 27.02. The overall bowling average during the same decade was 31.64. Hence SA's bowling coefficient = 31.64/27.02 = 1.17.

I must say I was surprised and was not really expecting Tendulkar to be better than Lara. While people talk about how good was Lara against Australia etc, his rather poor record against South Africa and Pakistan, especially in the 1990s goes literally unnoticed. Also interesting is his figures against England in the 2000s, despite that 400*, he made just 1003 runs at 43 against them. I think this is pretty much in alignment with what I thought it was, Sachin > Lara > Ponting > Kallis.

Dravid's numbers against the best opposition of his era is remarkably lower than that of Ponting's. That is why.
What about Kallis over Ponting and Lara? He is far better than both not just in the terms of batting but also his bowling.

Have not considered Kallis' bowling as this pertains to analysis of their batting alone. Kallis' bowling is way way way overrated tbh.

this is an analysis of the best batsmen not the fattest batsmen.
For every pound inzi lost=1 less run out in his career, therefore increasing his average by 10 in both formats.

He rightly deserves all the praise for his bowling. He is a batting all rounder. Batting avg. of 56+ and a bowling avg. of 32 is more than ordinary & he rarely gets injured. He is right on top, over everyone else IMO. Awesome thread btw :nice:
