Delhi Gangrape | Four accused sentenced to death

Who elected the Govt? Where does the police get its manpower from? Where do the rapists/murderers come from? Who kills girls at every step? If she escapes foeticide' date=' if she survives childhood death due to neglect, if she escapes sexual abuse and harassment (conveniently called eve teasing), if she escapes honour killing, if she escapes dowry death, if she escapes rape and every other crime she faces just for being a woman then she is a very lucky person. So what is the threat she faces before she can be called a lucky person, is it the government or her own family and her own society? Quite rich for the society to blame the government when itself is the biggest threat to a female.[/quote'] While your post is correct in its entirety, what has it to do with the situation here? There was a crime committed, in a bus which was fined some 6-7 times and shouldn't even have been on the roads. Why weren't the licenses of the bus driver or the registration papers of the bus impounded? Is that not a failure of the government and their arm- the Police. The protests by and large were spontaneous. Yet 70 yr olds, who were absolutely non violent were trashed and abused by the cops. The cops went to the extent of blaming the death of their own constable on the protesters. Who would you fault there? The statement of the girl was fudged and another statement had to be recorded, while she was on a ventilator. I don't know how much of this is even credible. We have conflicting reports by the doctors on if shifting her to Singapore was a necessity or really needed. Some doctors say that this call was taken by the Government. There are many such questions, to which, I'm afraid we will never get answers. The government may not have been directly responsible for this incident, but their handling of the events post the gang rape, is very shabby to say the least. They withdraw the security cover of an ex- Army chief because he attends a protest rally? This is how they reward a person who dedicated his life to the country. Lets see how many convictions the fast track courts for rape hand out. If people are convinced that they would be punished and not get away, they'd cower and not commit crimes like rape with such impunity. Right now, there is a lot of anger, grief and despair that is clouding my judgement. I may not have articulated these points very well. But suffice to say that people do not deserve to die like this just because they choose a poor government.

Very Very valid points all- the bolded ones specially indicating failure to address even the basics

This was before she was shifted to Singapore..Pity her family for the suffering they underwent.. SRC:Ind Express

When a movement is happening, it is sometimes hard to know you are at the epicentre, says the younger brother of the Delhi bus gangrape victim who continues to battle for her life. Ironically, the 19-year-old adds, nobody lets you forget it either not the protesters, not the eager internet rumour-mongers, not the politicians, not the police and certainly not the media. In the midst of all, their only concern is a woman who only partly knows the extent of her injuries but senses the worst as the buzz around her grows. ItÃÔ been a week since the family has been at the bedside of the woman at Safdarjung Hospital. Since then, from the floor of Parliament to the doors of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the story of their tragedy is the only thing they have been hearing. Ūt is like the life we had a week ago never existed. Every day is now passing by in a flash. When I switch on the TV or log on to a social networking site, I see these emotional outbursts about Damini, Amanat, Nirbhaya (the names some media organisations have given the victim). ItÃÔ hard to digest that this is my sister they are talking about, says the brother. The first time he saw a pseudonym flashing on TV, he says he raised the issue with doctors and some police personnel. Ū thought the channel in question had got my sisterÃÔ name wrong, because they said ÃÂ¥aminiÃÔ condition is deteriorating they addressed her like that. I was reassured from the first day that our names, my sisterÃÔ name would not come out. I was furious, he says. He has since learnt the ropes, even the terms for it. Å´omebody explained to me it is a phenomenon known as personification. I donÃÕ like it, but they say she is the face of a movement, he says. However, the Net barrage was something he couldnÃÕ take he has blocked his Facebook account. Ŧvery two hours, there is a new rumour. On social networks, celebrities and many friends flash her obituaries every night. For them it is just an online status they correct in two hours. At the same time, media channels say she has had a two-hour conversation, she has walked, she has smiled, she has hugged UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, he says. Last Friday, he saw claims on a TV channel of his sister having ÅÕaken a few steps, with brotherÃÔ help? and ÅØalking for the first time after the incident? She was actually vomiting and complaining of a new abdominal pain that day. ŵhat night, my mother and sister hardly slept. It was a long and bad night for us, and TV channels were flashing that she was on her feet. I was tired and angry, he recounts. On Sunday, as the protests over the rape turned violent in Delhi, the family faced another pressure. Even as the victim went through one more operation, her brother says the police approached them. ŵhey told us more than 80 people had been injured, that people were getting violent in my sisterÃÔ name. They wanted us to make an appeal for peace. We wanted the movement to continue, but we did not want violence, her brother says. Towards the evening, when she was brought back to the ICU after her surgery, her father finally conceded to the demand. The fatherÃÔ appeal to űlease help the police in maintaining law and order. Pray for my daughter, vandalism can serve no purpose? rang out through media channels late on Sunday night. A day later, the father does not want to interact with the media, despite repeated requests. Å®y father is scared that a wrong message has gone out. It seems like we donÃÕ want the protests. We are suffering so much, why should we be against the movement? Now, he has decided against speaking to the media. There were more requests from the police, but we told them we donÃÕ want to risk it again, the brother says. The flood of relatives and neighbours has not made things smooth either. űeople want to know what she said, what she wrote in notes, how long she had known her male friend, who was accompanying her. Relatives want us to ask doctors if she will be able to get married and have children. My parents have become tired of answering questions, he says. Politicians have gone so far as to seek a meeting with the girl. ŵhere is a risk of infection, we have said that repeatedly. But the requests continue to pour, a senior administrative official at Safdarjung Hospital said. While some politicians paid solitary visits, others have been calling the family and landing at the hospital every day. ŵhey are protesting outside the hospital, calling us at odd hours, telling us they will pay us for her medical treatment. Each one speaks to the doctor, gets a new update, and calls us. While we appreciate the support, it gets scary sometimes, the brother says. Meanwhile, the familyÃÔ efforts are concentrated on keeping the victim as guarded from the hue and cry as possible. While she wants the accused to be hanged, the brother says, she is also scared. Å´he does not know her intestines have been removed. She doesnÃÕ even know the extent of the public outcry, says the brother. Ŧven when her friends or relatives come to visit, she asks us how much they know. When she hears of politicians coming, she gets scared. She keeps asking my mother if she has told anyone what happened.

It is rather unprofessional of the Delhi police to pressurize the family which is undergoing so much trauma to issue a statement appealing for peace, which could be construed as disowning of the protestors by the family. The Delhi police has ruined most of whatever reputation it had over the last 10 days.

The govt needs to realize that the act of proper policing & its citizens complying with rules is more cost effective than all this drama of shifting to singapore/paying for her treatment/wasting taxpayers money by visiting the hospitals in lal bathi gadi's... collateral damage

Not just failure, but connivance. You see, there is something called a bribe.
'Hafta diary' helps cops zero in on rape bus A traffic policeman had reportedly recorded the registration number of the bus in a 'hafta' diary - a record of illegally-plying buses for which bribes have been paid for exemption of prosecution. That immunity from police, however, is seen as the sole reason the gangrape was not detected as no cop intercepted it while it circled the area slowly. .... The one fact that has left many red faces in Delhi Police is the sheer brazenness of the accused in circling the same stretch multiple times on the fateful night. After brutalizing the girl and throwing her out of the moving bus alongwith her male companion, Mukesh, brought the bus to the same stand at Munirka. Even while the rape was being committed, the bus passed unchallenged by cops on the road. Mukesh had admitted before the police that he was instructed by his brother to drive slowly while others took turns in raping the girl. She and her friend were thrown out of the bus during the second round when the bus was negotiating the U-turn below the Mahipalpur flyover. The bus entered Munirka area for the third time after the gangrape and it was taken to Noida by Ram Singh where the bus was washed to erase evidence. ... http://dailypioneer.com/city/116848-hafta-diary-helps-cops-zero-in-on-rape-bus.html

Yeah but India is growing... Can't blame Govt. all this...
What ? Im not saying that it wouldnt have happened under BJP but whom do you blame for rape cases which are pending for more than a decade ? Like I said in another post, a crime in India can getaway by just delaying the proceeding and who is at fault,a common man or sarkar ? when these mofos dont get punished then the others who have the same desires become more aggressive and confident. Like I have said before, a judge who is hearing a crime against women ( or men .. just in case Raghav reads this ) gets 5 mins to hear a case after the parties wait a whole day in court and 5-6 months for a hearing so what kind of ****ed up justice is that ? Doesnt every rich kid in India know that if they get caught drink driving even after killing someone then just because of money and "connections" they will be able to walk away free ? now who is at fault for this ?
