Should we develop Ashwin as a batsman?

Big yes. Many say not to put pressure on him and it ll affect his bowling. The way I see is his bowling is crap , he cannot lead the spin attack so better make him a 5th bowler and if he takes 2 or 3 wickets it is a bonus. We must use the full potential of the player . There will be pressure but he is supposed to handle that he is an international player

Too early to judge his batting prowess, though if he applies himself really well, i speculate he has a strong case at No.5 as laxman's replacement...This throws all ends up for your test team, you play an extra bowler or an extra batter. Something Like this.. Sehwag Rahane Pujara Kohli Ashwin Jadeja/Tiwary Dhoni I.Pathan Ojha Ishant/Zaheer Yadav. I must say my pick looks Incredible :yay:

But I hope we don't dump him like Irfan Pathan...
If he is not clicking then we should dump him Its not like we are asking the next muralitharan to concentrate on batting :giggle: He is an average bowler and if his batting gives extra advantage to the team then he must do it. If he fails to become an all rounder , dump him I say :two_thumbs_up:

Bad series . But i don't see him going anywhere this early in his career. He will get few more chances. Hope he continues his minnowbashing before he goes on to become more effective against others as well. Technically England is a minnow against good spin. But his kind of spin suited England. Not enough pace. Too much flight. He has to add variety to his bowling.

Is he really a good enough batsman to play in the top 6 and score runs consistently in SA< Australia and England? You seem to be falling into the trap England did 15 or so years ago of picking "bits and pieces" all rounders who can do a job in OD cricket but are neither test quality with bat or ball.

3rd highest run-getter after Sach and Kohli in 3 Australian tests circa 2011/12. Test ton versus Windies at Mumbai 2011, and of course this series. He's just posing as a bowler.
