dude this is the last thing we need...past record for selection iin a tours! these tours are to test young cricketers give them exposer in tough conditions mukund only performed on flatttest track where one guy got double :winky: other then that he was super flop we followed whole tour in west indies he was clue less worst then tailender against tall fast bowlers 5000 runs got him into last few a tours but he did not perform there and is not performing in ranji so newer guys deserve a chance..!

A hint of exposure in tough conditions isn't enough to allow a player to improve. For someone like Mukund who has performed for years consistently at Ranji level and has performed at A-level a little bit. Let's look at his last 6 India A innings he scored: 73, 3, 12, 132, 42, 41 So the New Zealand tour where you said he was a super-flop he scored 12,132*,42,41. Thats 227 runs @ 75.6!!! Yep complete flop!!! LOL. Stop making generalisations or you lose credibility in this argument. As I said, he performed OK and deserves a chance to keep learning in testing conditions, on the back of years of consistency at Ranji trophy. Otherwise we won't see any improvement.

Ranji trophy is near its end not many matches left and tamil nadu will not qualify .

But the domestic season is more than just Ranji.

on every track which did something (or wasnt flat ) he flopped let me make myself but clear here this is a team not national team where past performance matter if u perform in season u get selected to get bit more exposure mukund flopped this season and there are 2 young solid openers who deserve place ahead of him.. on numbers alone this season they deserve a chance too we are not saying mukund is gone forever but unless he hits 100's in ranji again he has no chance of getting selected cos at lower levels imo past performances dont mean much cos ultimate thing is to get players ready for international side.....so selection in a team is bit different mostly those guys are picked who have great season...

Next test openers are Gambhir & Sehwag. One is practicing tuk tuk for the Ahmedabad T20 while the other is recovering from a butter chicken hangover somewhere in New Delhi.

so he has not performed on a tours he has not performed in ranji ,he did not perform for india ...so why should he be in team?!

Have a look at his scores on A tours in cricketarchive(captained the side too IIRC). Other than the windies tour he has been pretty good. Though I agree he hasnt done much this ranji season. I'm all for including Jiwanjot in the A side but lets not just write of a consistent performer just after a bad season.

like i said he its not like he iwll be ignored forever but this season other guys deserve a chance ...lets hope he get his technique right and become a good player for india cos his temperament is good..

He did get in to test side due to his perfromances but did not look the part unlike rahane or pujara who even though did not score much looked quality.

I think you'll find that unless you give consistent performers at Ranji an extended run in the A-side you wont see regular improvement. You cant expect people to go from batting on flat tracks against bowlers in the mid 120s to suddenly adapt to overseas conditions against fasters bowlers from the get-go. The purpose of the A-tours is to allow these players to get regular exposure to these conditions so they learn and improve. For someone who has scored 5000+ runs, 2 tours is not enough. Especially given that in the last tour he averaged 75+. "I'm sorry Abhinav we have to drop you from the A-side because the last series where you averaged 75 was played on a flat wicket. Sorry ... doesn't count" We've had 2 India A tours in the past year. One in W.I. and one in N.Z. Mukund performed poorly in one and well in the other. I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone who has consistently blown the house down from the get-go in these A tours. Someone like Jiwanjot Singh has outperformed Mukund this season but has played 8 first-class matches and scored less than 1000 domestic runs. So why has he earnt a spot over someone like Mukund who has been consistent for many years but is having one poor (not horrible but poor) season? If we just give consistent Ranji performers a glimpse of overseas conditions and write them off as not-good-enough then we're never going to see any improvement. Remember that these players don't get regular exposure to overseas pitches so lets not deny players who have consistently performed for years at Ranji the chance to improve at A-level. Our problem is not a lack of talent ... It's the fact that the talent is not given regular exposure to conditions that test their technique.

Rohit Sharma has not played a single Test match despite a strong-technique and a first class average of nearly 60 and 2 centuries this season already. Let's not mix T20 and ODIs with Test cricket.

The comparison with RS was wrt the number of chances he got, not the formats.

i dont get it whts so good about rohit's technique ? yes he is good puller of ball but his technique against full straight balls is far from perfect those who say he has perfect technique need to jsut see how he gets out in odis,,,its not dot ball pressure or anything just bad technique and lazy person who is not trying to improve at all

What's good about his technique is he keeps his head still at the point of delivery, he drives with a good high front elbow, he's well balanced at the point of delivery, he plays straight very well, he's quick to rock on the back foot when it's slightly short. This is why most cricketing commentators make it a point to mention how good his technique is. In ODIs he hasn't been consistent, but should be in the side in the Tests.

actually he is not always balanced and thats why struggled against straight balls :winky: he is good back foot player and has tons of natural talent to hit ball long way but to say his technique is perfect would be wrong about elbow im not coach i dont know but he looks awkward when ball moves in and cramped up and cannot get easy runs and plays too many expensive shots... he looks very classy i agree wit that but his technique is far from perfect

I never said his technique was perfect but it is the best of the younger players. Kohli has shown good application but still has a fair few obvious technical flaws. Lol maybe the reason he plays so many expansive shots is because he's playing ODI and T20 cricket. He deserves a Test spot. Ian Chappell, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Aakash Chopra, Wasim Akram and many others have pointed out how strong his technique is and how much of a talent this man is. look i know they all hyped him up but are u really gonna buy this he played those shots cos he was playing in odis ? really? in odis u have so much time to settle in and go big at end worst part is he failedm ostly when he came in early with many overs to go and way he got out it had nothing to do with balls left or pressure test cricket is much harder and rohit's weakness actually will be more exploited there btw been following him from start he plays like this even in domestic matches.. also plz dont just take the word of commies like a sheep watch him play...did ya see how he batted in south africa? guy was not even able to touch a ball with his perfect technique..just watch it and come back to me

I am sure we will find our next opener again from the crop of the middle order batsmen we have , like we did with Sehwag. Rahane for sure has my vote but hopefully he will given a debut in India and not being asked to open in SA after Gambhir and Sehwag continue to falter vs Aussies at home.
