Look at our batting line up .. all tried and test flopstars like Sir vivian shewag , gautam "poke" gamir , Yuvraj , Nohit , Jadeja :facepalm: We are going to struggle in 2013 and 14 but let us atleast prepare for the future with some youngsters
Magneto Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The way Indians bat all 300+ pitches look like 150- pitches, and then we blame our bowlers for not getting the opposition out by 150. ODIs are a batsman's game and stronger batting sides will always win.

Having said that India is more likely to produce a great batsman than great bowlers. Which bowler has an average of below 25.. including Kapil/Kumble. None. India won lot of matches recent times because they had good bowling UNIT than great bowling individuals. Even if you talk about great teams one good bowler is not going to do jack. India's strength is swing that is why we have not produced a single ATG fast bowler.

Improving the batting will be easier though, as India has a rich batting tradition. Bowling was mediocre (by global standards) even while we were winning during the last decade. Can't see how this will change all of a sudden. Spinners have disappeared and we are getting outspun on our own soil. Pacers show initial promise then disappear into obscurity after two or three years, the list is endless. I don't dislike the IPL for the games per se, but for what it doing to Indian cricket. The willingness to give their heart and soul into international games is missing from Indian players because they make easy money anyway. I wish IPL had never taken off.

I have been watching Indian ODI cricket closely enough and the script goes something like this. In ODIs we need a flat, batting pitch. When the side bats first, we need 25-30 runs more than a par score. That means on a 300 pitch, we need to make 325-330. Then its possible to defend because of scoreboard pressure. When batting second, we can even chase 330 on a 300 pitch because of batting depth and batsmen have learned to handle pressure of chasing down totals. But whenever there is help for bowlers or if the pitch is two paced, our batsmen will struggle and wont win us games. The bowling lacks tooth to win us games on their own. If something happens differently from this script, we will usually struggle. For instance, against Bangladesh in Asia Cup, Sachin slowed down to score his 100. We scored 290 instead of 330. So we lost. Even in WC game against SA, India lost too many wickets at the end and couldnt get 300 when they should have got 330. Again, couldnt defend. Wins against SL and Pak recently have come when we chased 300+ on good, batting pitches. I dont agree that pitches for this ODI series have been good for batting. Pitch at Chennai was damp and there was help for seamers. Pitch at Kolkata was two paced and deteriorated as the game went along. When India again plays on a batting track, you will see the difference.

Does not matter who the opponent is. Flat tracks neutralize the superior bowling skills of our opponents and make the teams competitive. If there is bounce or swing Indian batsmen will fail now. These days even spin track is fatal for our batsmen.

Most of the batsmen are past their peak as I mentioned in one of the posts above. Just because we have Sehwag and Gambhir in the team, doesn't mean they are the same players they were 2-3 years back.

He is lively, not fast, like Yadav, around 135-140, but he is working with Pont so expect him to gain more pace in next year or so. He improved a lot under him this season from nobody to one of the highest wicket takers this season.
