In 2004, BJP was more focussed on attacking Sonia Gandhi rather than Congress as a whole which backfired. In 2014, all oppositions targeted Mr Modi more than BJP and we all know the result. In current Delhi Assembly elections, till the time BJP was targeting Arvind Kejriwal and abusing him the survey were showing very favourable results for AAP. But now it seems strategies have changed after Kiran Bedi has been nominated, now BJP is not attacking Arvind Kejriwal directly wereas the personal attacks on Ms Bedi has increased many folds from AAP. My prediction is if this personal attack on Kiran Bedi continues from AAP, BJP is going to win the assembly election with 2/3rd majority.

G_B_ Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 ^ its a long term project for Congress. He is 51 so will have to rebuild the congress base after these elections. The best chance Congress have is keeping BJP out by giving AAP outside support. But it was a right call. He is a known name and young enough to rebuild the party. To be fair Scindia (MP) and Pilot (Rajasthan) are also some of the young leaders the congress has untrusted for the states. So they are making some changes in the right direction. Ashok Chavan a young (by Indian political standards) mass leader in Maharashtra is tipped to take the reigns. I feel that high command is now allowing the local sartaps to flourish. They are in such a weak position that they cannot rely upon the gandhis anymore.

It was rejected by local chief due to ego issues. I would say sitting chief ministers should be given free reign. States in which congress does not have a major presence the high command needs to make a call.

That has hurt them badly, especially since Rahul is so bad at politics.

Result: 1.They lost Andhra as Jagan went separate and people hate Congress for creating telengana. 2.TRS went alone in Telengana and Congress got babaji ka thullu. I still want to know whose gave Congress the idea to do all this?
G_B_ Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 yeah Andhra Pradesh (united) was a self inflicted wound. They are in tatters even in Telangana. Their leaders are jumping to the TRS or the BJP. You could say Andhra Pradesh was the strongest of all major Congress states. 2004-2014 Echos the collapse in the Congress. This is what i mean, its not just the BJP. Even regional parties are starting to upset the congress. There is a basic weakness in the congress which can be exploited by most other major regional parties. The way i see it if Congress fail to retain Karnataka and fail to retake Punjab and Rajasthan then they are in major major trouble. That is my metric to gauge just how far they have fallen.

G_B_ Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 the split of Andhra Pradesh is a timely reminder to even the BJP. While it is a good idea to create smaller states (something i support) you need to be politically savy so as to not feck yourself in the process. If people dont care then by all means go for it. But if there is resistance back away. The last time the BJP were in power they created Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgrah. They have been a political force (either leader of opposition or in government in a major way) in all three states. So creating new states has not hurt them at all.
