Is Graeme Smith Underappreciated?

I think Smith is underappreciated; he has led his team in 100 tests and out of bad times, with a batting average close to 50. What do you think?

He has been captain his whole test career and still averaged about 50 with 26 hundreds and scored at a very good strike rate. That too as an opener, it's a phenomenal achievement. Massively underrated, even by most South Africans largely due to SA lacking a hype machine that most other big countries have.

graeme smith's true greatness will ascend once he retires. it's similar to hayden, people start realized how good hayden was once he retired and nowadays creeps into some people's all time XI. this applicable to many top players who don't get labelled "great" during their playing time. in recent times, dravid, laxman, vaas, gillespie, langer, boucher
