Yuvraj used to be the same, talking of his few test successes and being in denial. Ganguly never accepted he had a problem against short balls, Sehwag doesn't think there is anything wrong with his bating technique or batting style despite failing so much, Gambhir has never accepted the technical flaw in his batting leading to failure, Bhajji has blamd everyone but himself for his downfall, Dhoni keeps going back to 2007 WC if someone asks if any of the defeats was the worst he's faced, the less said about the BCCI the better. Do our cricketers fear something and hence continue to be in denial? Haven't we been taught accepting that there's a problem is the first major step towards solving it?

if raina is serious then he needs to have a go in county cricket (even for free) after the ipl ends in may head for england in june july august and skip a few of the meaningless odi series. play 8-9 matches there and see just exactly where he stands.

He did play well in Windies..Saved our ass when we were 82/6 or so in the first test. But no way he has done "considerably well" in his career so far. It has been one decent innings followed by a string of embarrassing failures.

I dont even understand what these people call as 'considerably well' seriously, the kind of team we had a few years back and the kind of test team we have become now depresses me. Not one has the tenacity that can be even thought of comparing with the likes of laxman or dravid

How about being a little honest in admitting that he hasn't done consistently well and failed to use his chances so far? Has looked clueless against top class spin bowling in test matches, barring an exception or two has shown zero ability to bat himself through difficult situations. A very thin line between self belief and living in denial, in this case (and in general for Indian cricket), the latter is true across the spectrum. Also I doubt if he would have said such a thing if Dhoni was not the captain anymore. Just a guess on my part, but in that scenario, the comment would have been something like I need to work hard and score a lots of runs in FC cricket.

There's a difference between confidence and denial. How would you feel if Imran Tahir comes out and says I feel I have done quite well in my test career so far? India's batting stocks can't be so bad that they will have to fall back on Suresh Raina.

He was good in Lord's second inning as well. But, to say he has done considerably well is an eyewash. But, I did read in an interview about him saying that he still needs to ;earn th emetanl aspect of test cricket and he's trying to do so.

I think he hasn't had the rub of the green in Test cricket - quite a few umpiring errors not gone his way. That said, I don't think he has done "well" or anything of that sort in Test match cricket. It's interesting he's vying for an opening slot! I'm not sure what is being communicated to him or what is the future plan.

Going by the noises in the media, it's almost certain he will be in the test squad vs the Aussies. It's 2010 reduxed. He gets picked at home, does reasonably well, goes to SA, looks totally out of sorts..and the cycle repeats itself
