Dinesh Karthik, Saha and even Parthiv all have better first class averages than Dhoni though. :dontknow: And Saha is actually a keeper-bat, as it should be, and not the other way round.

Avg. 27 in 23 matches with 1 ton. Dhoni's miles better than that. Going by Indian WK standards (not including RD) Dhoni's way ahead.
DK opened in SA,Eng,dont forget

lol read the post to which i replied dhoni is better and that is what i meant! btw saha may well be a better option if we have a better test captain

DK opened in SA' date='Eng,dont forget[/quote'] He performed consistently or pretty well opening in the England Tour '07. Din't make any sort of impact opening in the game in other games with few twitchy 50s. Having more FC avg. has got nothing to do on how they perform in the national level. Parthiv was supposed to be a good WK-Bat and failed. Saha might do good as well but I don't see him being consistent enough. I'm not saying Dhoni is a consistent batsman but 'currently' our best or only wk/bat.

Dhoni's biggest advantage is he plays the short ball really well. He is a good player of spin too. He was a good keeper but these days he seems to have injured fingers most of the time and keeps dropping normal deliveries too. This is obviously as a result of playing continuously, without break. As a test captain he is obviously not good tactically. We need to find a better test captain but as a test wicketkeeper-batman he is still the best bet perhaps. On the other hand, Dhoni is a living legend in LOIs. One of the best LOI batsman ever and a match-winner per excellence. In order to preserve him for ODIs , we may look for a test keeper, in which version he is average.

yes' date='we r talking of thier batting here I think[/quote'] At which he has done considerably well down the order and someone who usually bats with the tail but he clearly doesn't give Test an importance over ODIs.

he was doing well upto England tour.had one bad series against Pak and was dropped forever. FC average has everything to do with it,how else you judge them.Parthiv's major problem is his keeping, not batting

yes' date='we r talking of thier batting here I think[/quote'] But how batting comes in picture when he did not play as a WK/bat. He should then be compared to batsmen, not be talked as WK/bat..

DK was dropped for accommodating Yuvraj Singh in the middle order with RD opening in the 1st 2 tests in Australia. Sehwag never allowed him to comeback once he got his spot back. Same with jaffer who lost his spot to Gauti and has been away ever since.

matters a lot. Otherwise likes of Sangakara and Andy Flower would not have turned just batsmen from WK/batsmen in test cricket.

Not just because Yuvraj. Remember, It was Shoaib who ended his career as a test opener, not Yuvraj. He could not handle pace of Shoaib even on flat tracks.

Sangakara left keeping a long time back and averages less than 40 as a WK/bat. Flower too left keeping to concentrate on batting.
