Not just because Yuvraj. Remember' date=' It was Shoaib who ended his career as a test opener, not Yuvraj. He could not handle pace of Shoaib even on flat tracks.[/quote'] Not really. He had done well in 12 months prior to the Pak series handling the likes of Steyn, Ntini, Pollock, Anderson etc. The reason why he didn't open in the 3rd test was because he was asked to keep as well and the team did';t want to burnden him with opening as well. But Yuvraj hit a 169 there and had to be accommodated in the 11 in the next series.

Sangakara left keeping a long time back and averages less than 40 as a WK/bat. Flower too left keeping to concentrate on batting.
thats what I said, they left it permanently and are/were mostly played as a batsmen in Tests.DK still is a WK/bat option for Tests

Huh? When did that happen? He played the vast majority of his tests as keeper.

Think he did not keep in his last series in India' date=' Taibu was the keeper. I may be wrong though.[/quote'] Yeah, he played a handful of series as a batsman but I just checked on cricinfo and 55 of his 63 tests were as keeper.

dk did decently as an op but not as wk-bat. putting up a good performance with the bat being a keeper is a different thing than being a batsman
Sangakkara averages close to 70 just as a batsman, so is he much better batsman than Tendulkar, Dravid, Ponting, Kallis, Lara? Just filtering out what someone did as a batsman and a wicketkeeper batsman will not give the full picture. When Karthik kept regularly his batting had not evolved to the extent it was when he was playing as a batsman. He would have done well during that time with the bat even if he was keeping because his game had improved in general. Just attributing the difference in average to wicketkeeping responsibility is a naive way to look at things. It plays a part, but is not that important.

i said its a different task not tougher. a player do have a different mindset when playing as a keeper-batsman and a specialist batsman when playing as a batsman he do have the extra responsibility of scoring runs

a WK batsman doesnt have the responsibiility of scoring runs? there is no different mindset,u focus on keeping while keeping, batting while batting.

yes they do but its not the same their primary role is to keep batting is secondary. also the level of energy consumed is different as well as the keepers tend to get toiled more

I agree that thier primary role is to keep.It only means DK was under more pressure as he didnt hv keeping to fall back on I'm not sure that works against him keepers usually bat at 7 and get sufficuent rest,DK was opening,so it kind of evened out.also he was mostly a slipper anyway IIRC

Avg. 27 in 23 matches with 1 ton. Dhoni's miles better than that. Going by Indian WK standards (not including RD) Dhoni's way ahead.
Both of them played together in 2007 tour of England and Karthick had easily outbatted him.

Dk scored 263 runs in 6 innings@ 44, Dhoni scored 205 runs in 5 innings @52..not sure if thats 'easily outbatted him' DK was better though as he faced the new ball

Dhoni kept wickets so that's not an easy task too.

I didn't say that Dhoni didn't do well in that series with bat. But nobody would argue on who was better bat in that series. That's what I meant when I said that Karthick was easily a better bat in that series.
