Yes but the recent fatal attack on that blogger guy who organized this protest seems to show that groups like Jamaat still wields considerable amount of power. Apparently the blogger was an atheist as well and after his death several Shahbag protesters decided to condemn him as well. And also read somewhere that BD govt has shut down his blog due to blasphemous content? What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts? atheist or not, he doesn't deserve to be killed....his murderers need to be found and they need to be hanged too...but yah his blog had some really bad stuff about islam and our prophet... he call Muhammad PBUH, a child molester and a pedophile and lots of other bad stuff... and jaamat really doesnt have that much power anymore...they are just hurting themselves now by there actions.... they're gonna be vanished in a couple of days hopefully!

To cut to the chase, after the Mukti Bahini gained independence for Bangladesh, largely due to India's help, Seikh Mujibur was moving against the Generals but he got toppled by the same generals. Shortly thereafter, they found a good cause- the Farakka Barrage, that completed in 1975 and due to our ineptness for the initial years of its operation, the Banglas were furious (rightly so) that we released too much water in the flood season and too little in the dry season, so we were messing with the Bangla economy on a huge scale, predominantly because Bangla economy back then (and still, to a large extent today) was almost entirely based on rice and jute production. The generals drummed it up as a 'national issue that big bad India was out to bully and get Bangladesh' and diverted attention from their attrocities, while playing musical chairs with the two Jayalalithas of Bangla politics. The classic diversion tactic and it held up for decades.

King Khan Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I think these few number of protests in urban cities aint represent the undermine huge common Muslim fundamentalist view & presence of power in Bangladeshies. Jamat is mainy active in root level of village level politics within the enlightment of Quranic law. Besides they have a very big number of dedicated local & offshore doners & fund raiser through different charity, business, ngo etc hidden/exposed channels to buy out anyone in fovor of them. I'll yet consider these protests as a muppet shows from governing party. But it is true, if these protests transfer into some sorta revolution in BD than a positive secularist change about to come along with a fear of civil war.

Our father of the nation, wanted to get rid of them right after the war but unfortunately he was gone... so no one could really do it until now where Sheikh Hasina is very confident on doing her stuff... Also, after the bloggers death, he was taken to the place where he was born and they did a prayer with his body... Muslims do that but i forgot what its called... fi he was an athiest, then why was he buried in muslim manner?
