he averages 47 with the bat in australia. Only places he has failed is Sa and England away. Which to be fair most batsman from the subcontinent have.
Oh yeah? His average in Oz in buitl around 2 innings. 195 against the poorest of attacks on a flat pitch and the other one on Adelaide, which BTW, is his best inning outside the SC. Numbers are fine but he has struggled big time against quality attacks. You see the way he was opened up in SA time and again. As for England, I can assure you that he's lucky to have not played too much, ele he already would have had a sub 45 average. And don't bring that 105 on debut and the 100 at Trent Bridge to show that he can play in SA/Eng. That was a decade ago. The fact is, he has played just one test in England since then to get a pair and has failed miserably in SA in the next 2 subsequent tours. Also, his record in WI on difficult tracks has been paltry.

Yeah don't bring in any innings by Sehwag Played in tough conditions because they burst your myths. Brilliant logic.

most of those were played 8-10 years back. There is nothing in the last 5 years outside SC.

You do know India went on to lose that Test on the so called "flat" deck don't you? In fact the pitch was so "flat" that Indian batting collapsed around 350 after Sehwag had scored 195 and put the team in a position of strength at 329/3 or thereabouts. Somehow batting lineup consisting of Tendulkar, Laxman, Ganguly & Dravid collapsed on such a "flat" track. I get it you are no fan of Sehwag and that Sehwag's standards & performances have slipped terribly over the last few years, but at least give Sehwag his due and don't change the history. Sehwag has played some of the best knocks abroad which even plenty of legends have failed to do. His 195 on boxing day, his 150 odd at Adelaide and his 100 on debut against SA on debut when India were floundering at 50 odd for 4 are some of the best knocks you will see outside the SC. Just because Sehwag has been simply unstoppable and in a different league in sub-continent doesn't mean he was cr@p outside the SC.

They are different arguments. To say that Sehwag has not performed outside the subcontinent over the past few years is different from labeling his career as one of a FTB/STB/XTB etc. Sehwag is an all time great and the second best opener ever from the subcontinent. Using his recent failures to denigrate his career achievements is nonsense.

We did not lose because ball was seaming and swinging but our batsmen took it too easy and played some poor shots to get out. You don't find ball swinging and seaming when score is 329/3. It was a flat track, did do a little with new ball which Sehwag survived with drop catches.

The pitch was damp and there was a lot of movement. And what about Adelaide when the pitch had cracks in it and no one from the side was able to put bat to ball except Sehwag? What about Galle? Bloemfontaine? Trent Bridge? The super test in Sydney? The list goes on and on. Of course you can shut your eyes to all off those innings.

Looks like he has lost all motivation. I was expecting him to work on his fitness after being dropped from the ODI side, but he's comeback with more charbi and even a chasma to boot. Wouldn't mind him being dropped for the next test onwards. Or maybe give him a go in the middle order for a couple of games to see how he does.

As the only Indian cricketer to score triple hundreds (two of them and almost a third), I feel very saddened by Sehwag's prolonged lack of form and apparent lack of application over the last few years. I think he needs to be dropped for some time for his own good. I think he will come back much sharper and much more determined just the way he made his comeback in Australia 5-6 years ago.

Bloemfontaine 2000, Trentbridge 2002, Adelaide early 2008 and I dont think that pitch was that tough to bat as Indian first innings score was 526, Australia 563, Galle is in SC. All these innings were a long time back when he used to be good. He has struggled since 2008. Yes, I saw that match and that is why I said new ball was doing and Sehwag survived through drop catch and once it dried out, Sehwag took the attack to the bowlers. There was nothing in the pitch after lunch. In that post UG said RD, SRT, VVS collapsed that was not because it was seaming and swinging. How suddenly ball starts to seam and swing when score is 329/3. They all played casual shots and got out.

Ok let's see how our batsmen got out. Sachin got the all of his life and was caught down the leg side. Dravid got a 150k delivery from Steve Waugh and got caught at short mid wicket. Then Sehwag got out. It was the next day when we collapsed and if I do remember correctly, it was overcast coupled with poor batting. Sehwag played in bright sun shine with no swing/seam. Rest I have stated that his 150+ in Adleaide was his best outside the SC. But, what else is there? All his other great inning were a decade ago. You can't keep on harping on you always, can you? And that's what I said. It's not that I hate him but it's plain fact that he has strugled against good genuine fast bowling in helpful conditions. Numerically, he's our second best opener but he's not in the league of a Gavaskar.

I completely agree with this assessment. A guy who kept producing 150+ scores both at home and away cannot be crap. He's going through a long bad patch, but that can't change the fact that he is truly one of India's greatest cricketers. How many good test openers has India produced in the 80 years we have been playing Test cricket any way??

By away I mean outside the SC. And he has produced a grand total of 2 150+ scores outside the SC. He's not cr@p, heck who am I to call him one, but is not good enough against genuine fast bowling in helpful conditions.
