G_B_ Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 +1. On a serious note, it's strange that there are no AFB with SU-30 MKI in Southern part. Although, plans are afoot to base a squadron at Thanjavur. maybe cause these birds have a large combat and mission radius. Which is enough to cover the entire south of india. MKI has a mission radius of about 3000km secondly, no real Ariel threats to the south
G_B_ Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Er' date=' asking a Tamil fisherman, who sails/rows his catamaran out to the sea and casts a net, to install GPS in their boats is like asking the rickshaw puller to put airconditioning in his cab. Square Drive Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Attacked' date= literally killed. How sick are you being hysterical about something like this? Some balls these guys have got to attack our people on our land. A Chennai local police station might be enough to deal with these clowns and here they are... First I don't believe in this news or their side of story from these fishermen. But it's funny reading it. SL military is one of the most disciplined in the world enough said.

But I wonder how much time will it take to reach the farthest point of S.India from the nearest AFB that have SU-30MKI. There are no aerial threats right now. But looking at the way the Chinese are helping SL build port and Infra there, I think it would be prudent to have a AFB with SU-30MKI in S.India. Our navy has an air arm that's going to grow in the future. I think you are talking about the induction MiG-29K in Navy and N-LCA when it comes along. Those two will surely increase their capability many times. If I'm not mistaken, Sea Harriers are only Fighter AC that Navy has right now.

Gorshkov is delayed and the new ones being constructed in kochi are not due for a few years. The MKI should take about 30min-45min to reach the southern most part of India/sl from Lohegaon air base in pune.

I recently read that INS Viraat is currently undergoing refits which would put it out of service for 8-9 months! Vikramaditya would only be able to join the Navy in December if the Ruskies don't delay it any further. Also IAC-I isn't going to be inducted before 2018. Not sure about 65K ton IAC-II. On the other hand, China is now concentrating on ACs. They won't be as good as IN right now since they are inexperienced of operating an AC fleet and strategies that are required to utilise it to it's max potential, but slowly they'll get there. Not only the Chinese, but USN is also going to deploy 5-6 of it AC in APAC region. It is high time for IN to pull up it's socks so that it can maintain their superiority in the IOC region. Is there any credible news about IN showing interest in Naval Rafale?

China is already ahead of India in the navy department- while they have little/no expertese on aircraft carriers, their submarine fleet beats the pants off of us. 2. Neither India, nor China has any snowball's chance in hell, atleast in our lifetime, to project naval supremacy anywhere where the US has designs. For the USN is stronger than rest of the world's navy put together.

Then this is also newsworthy to discuss in a forum and is a more balanced report; Sri Lankan Navy rescues 4 Indian fishermen Yeah, terrorist supporters can sell the dead bodies hoping to get the revenge in some way once they lost in the battle field. "the sexual violence that had been practiced as a war strategy by Sri Lankan Government." So it's a war strategy. LOL f***ing bullshits!
GautiMaan Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 An indirect attempt to intimidate India: Jayalalithaa Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday expressed serious concern over the recent attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and urged the Union government to take firm action. In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she said the Sri Lankan Navy had once again started committing atrocities against innocent fishermen of Tamil Nadu. The latest incident of firing clearly indicated that it was trying to create an atmosphere of panic, fear and tension among the fishermen who sought to eke out their livelihood peacefully. “The incident should be viewed against the background of the massive protests by Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu against the atrocities of Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan Tamils and the demand to take stern action against the Sri Lankan government for its human rights violations…,” she said. Ms. Jayalalithaa said the incidents of firing and arrest of fishermen were an indirect attempt to intimidate the Government of India and browbeat it into not raising voice against Sri Lankan atrocities on innocent Tamils in the international fora. The Government of India should not be a silent spectator. The Sri Lankan government should be advised to desist from using force against innocent fishermen who have been fishing in their traditional waters for centuries, she added. On another note the government still has not given any indication on what stand it is gonna take at the UNHRC later this month.I fear it may be the usual lets not interfere in our neighbour's affairs approach

Even in submarines India will be ahead when the scorpenes come on board. 2. Thats a misleading statement. USA more certainly will not be able to project naval supremacy 1000km from the land mass of India or china. The air forces would whip them. There is only one winner when an airforce which is of good calibre comes up against a navy. The same goes for the USN near UK, France Japan or Russia. They can project undisputed away from these countries anywhere in the globe. Infact say 10-15 years from now, the Indian air force and navy will be in a much stronger position than the US airforce and navy in the persian gulf due to our geographic location.

I dont know which planet you live on if you think that India or China would be able to touch a USN battlegroup parked up to 300 kms from the coast. For one, the US AWACS is about as superior to ours (or the Chinese) in its total coverage and information transfer rate as the modern supercomputer is to the ENIAC. For two, if you think the IAF or the PLAAF has a snowball's chance in hell to compete with the USN's air-wing, you have no idea. Hell, forget the USAF, the USN has a bigger and stronger air-wing than the IAF or the PLAAF. Regarding our 'Indian ocean supremacy', its nothing more than a pipe dream. It will exist so long as Uncle Sam allows it to exist, for the US has so much greater quality and quantity of hardware than us that it is like comparing an ant to an elephant. All it means, is our force projection would be cheaper and more cost effective, owing to our location. But when Uncle Sam shows up with 5 carrier fleets, half of which in 10 years would be UAV carriers btw, all the INS can do is stand aside and let the alpha male have his way. I would urge you to gain a membership of JANE's military digest. For one thing it impressed upon me, is the magitude of USN's superiority over other navies and how underrated it is. As i said, it is no exgaggeration to say that the USN alone is capable of conquering India (though not holding it, the Americans have proven to suck at holding conquered land) and if the entire world's navy joined up against Uncle Sam for one gigantic battle, Uncle Sam would still win with more than 50% hardware intact. Their air superiority over other nations seem miniscule by comparison to their naval superiority.
G_B_ Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I actually work for a defense sector company BAE systems. Some of your arguments are childish to say the least. You think the US ships are going to be a match for a reign of Brahmos missile parked 300 km off the coast? Let alone the issue of missile boats patrolling near the coast. India's phalcon AWACS would simply have to move in the air within Indian airspace to counter any US ship movement 300km away. I avoid Jane's military news mag, like the plague. Its for people who want to catch up on the latest happenings in 15minutes. There is a good reason the US navy stays away from the straits between Taiwan and china. They tread there its going to be open season for Chinese surface to air missiles on their boats. 10-15 years from now satellite technology is further going to strengthen the hand of nations like India and china to within 1000km of their maritime borders. If anything having aircraft carriers against mid size powers is going to be a bit redundant with the advance in missiles like the Brahmos.
G_B_ Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 and for the record, if we are talking about the USN projecting to china or India Its the Aegis system that calls the shots which is not an out and out AWACS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegis_Combat_System
Muloghonto Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I actually work for a defense sector company BAE systems. Some of your arguments are childish to say the least. Seems like you are not the only one to have worked for a defence sector company then. You think the US ships are going to be a match for a reign of Brahmos missile parked 300 km off the coast? Let alone the issue of missile boats patrolling near the coast. Until i see a BRAHMOS actually score a kill against a capital ship in battle, it is nothing more than a technology demonsrator. The one important factor that the US has, is every single bit of its war machine is battle-proven, with variable results. The actual battle performance of our (and the Chinese) equipment,is largely unproven. Besides, i do think the US can get within 300 kms of our coast with their A/C squadron and still have enough AWACS support to deal with a Brahmos. India's phalcon AWACS would simply have to move in the air within Indian airspace to counter any US ship movement 300km away. Again, you know not what you speak of. Our AWACS is puny compared to that of the states. Our entire defence force's AWACS is dwarved by a carrier group's AWACS capability and the bandwidth of their real time data sharing. Ie, in simple terms, their force as whole can track and monitor about an order of magnitude ( that would be 10x) more targets than ours can and do keep in mind that the bottleneck in the force are grunts (ie, marines/troopers) for simultaneous tracking. I avoid Jane's military news mag, like the plague. Its for people who want to catch up on the latest happenings in 15minutes. It is a good starting guide for most military topics. There is a good reason the US navy stays away from the straits between Taiwan and china. They tread there its going to be open season for Chinese surface to air missiles on their boats. Yes. The good reason is called prudence. There is no point in creating a standoff between a couple of hundred chinese and american operators with itchy fingers. Risk to reward is not justified. But if the presence of the US carrier fleet wanted to get within 300 kms of Chinese coastline, they could and quite easily survive it. 10-15 years from now satellite technology is further going to strengthen the hand of nations like India and china to within 1000km of their maritime borders. If anything having aircraft carriers against mid size powers is going to be a bit redundant with the advance in missiles like the Brahmos. Your Brahmos does not have nearly eough range to cover peninsular India from US carrier groups parked in BoB or Arabian sea. All they have to do, is not get to within 300 kms of shore (which they don't need to with their carriers) and they can rain hell on us. In 10-15 years, US will be fielding mostly UAV airforce, given that over 2/3rds of the new US pilot recruits are in UAV department. And if you think manned fighters can maintain air superiority over UAVs in the air in another 10-15 years, you are not nearly as involved with the defence industry as you would want me to believe.
Muloghonto Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 and for the record, if we are talking about the USN projecting to china or India Its the Aegis system that calls the shots which is not an out and out AWACS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegis_Combat_System Err, the AEGIS system is most definitely enhanced by the level of AWACs support in the area. While AEGIS is mostly related to automated ship-to-ship defence mechanism, the AWACS is a force multiplier- if you detect the launch earlier, due to your AWACS, your reponse time prior to AEGIS activation is exponentially increased.
