The five arrested were identified as Baba, Bhutha, Rampro, Gaza alias Brajesh and Vishnu Kanjar. “The sixth accused identified as Nitin Kanjar is absconding and we are hopeful of arresting him soon,” he said. The 39-year-old Swiss woman, on a cycling trip along with her husband, was allegedly gangraped at a forest area in Datia district, on the night of March 15. Earlier, the police had detained over 20 people and on the basis of leads provided by them the arrests were made. The woman has left for New Delhi, the IG said. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta said the incident was “unfortunate” but claimed foreign tourists were not following rules on informing local police about their movements. “What happened is unfortunate for our nation. When foreign tourists come, they should inform the SP (Superintendent of Police) about their plans. This is the system but it is not being followed,” he said. The alleged offence took place at Jhadia village, eight kms from Datia town, at around 9 pm on March 15, when the woman along with her partner was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour. The couple -- who are adventure tourists -- was camping at a forest area for the night while on their way back from Orchha, home to temples of Lord Ram, and were proceeding to Agra when they were attacked and looted by some persons who took away their laptops and other valuables. I yearn when our nation would be safe.

This is the system but it is not being followed, I would like to know if and how tourists are informed of this requirement. I would also like to know if they are interviewed and counselled about other safety guidelines when they enter the country.

As much as I'm sure u sympathize with the victim, your statement is correct. This is epic stupidity. Cycling and then camping in MP? By all means cycle and camp through Goa, Kerala...but MP? Sigh. Seriously don't these folks do any homework before embarking on such nonsensical expeditions? I guess at this juncture we can only sympathize with the victim.

There is no quick fix for problem of law and order.It can only be eradicated with providing education ,jobs and basic facilities of life to people.The faith of people in law order will raise if they knew that system will provide them justice rather than taking the side of powerful and it is beneficial if we they to law rather than taking law in our hand.

There was a lady killed by a pedophile and her 10 year old daughter raped, on the same day as this rape, in albany. They completely ignored it, instead they went with the exotic story about india. If they really wanted to talk about women and their issues there would be compelling stories behind each of the assaults that take place once every few seconds in america, but they have to go with rape in the land of elephants and snakes by scary brown men who otherwise take their jobs. And i don't know what to say about self flagellating desis that fall for this cheap trick every time its pulled.
Ram Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 As a side note, is it not interesting that in almost all of these high-profile crimes, the alleged perpetrators are almost always caught, that too within days of the crime. Just goes on to show that, if they put the mind to it, law enforcement can be really effective in India. Only that they choose to be complicit to crimes because it is a lot more profitable for them to be so.

Time is irrelevant as long life revolves around roti kapda makaan.Everything require resources. To maintain upto mark law and order you need well trained police force in large numbers with speedy judicial system.Moreover money and muscle power plays a big role in elections.Almost all profitable businesses are taken over by mafia.There is no way politicians or mafia's will allow criminals to be touched with whom support they capture power

someone Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 The best way to deal with rapes is prevention. Public members should be smart enough to avoid unnecessary attention or getting into traps. That is the same case for other crimes such as robbery. Public must be alert and smart. Laws and education cannot solve them, thus it's important to have self awareness and sense.

This community is infamous for criminal activities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanjar Belt of North MP between Datia, Gwalior and Shivpuri has good amount of people from this community which is still nomadic and contributes to good amount of crimes in area. In all likelihood they wouldn't even know what happened in Delhi recently and if there is new law.
