Target of 170 is chasable on this pitch?

I don't think Sachin and Rahane are sitting ducks. Lyon bowled very well in the first innings but Sachin batted ok in the last run chase. Even a quick 30 or 40 from Sachin will be handy in the run chase. The key is not to let the lead get to 170+. But given India's history against the tail, we may be chasing 270+.

The way Rahane got out you won't even see English tailenders getting out to spin. Sachin made 33 in 3 chances. Agree with RSA.
So therefore they will do badly in every innings from now on? They are going to play exactly the same way as the first innings? They don't have the ability to improve their game?

Preparing this type of pitch is shooting yourself in the foot. A normal Indian wicket would have been more than enough to beat Aussies. But on a wicket like this, any ordinary bowler can run through a side and batting becomes difficult which evens the gap between sides.

get the tail out first more than the batting its India's failure to finish off the tail enders which is the issue. Rahane was nervous on debut.

So what do you think now? Sachin is finished, Lyon pwnd him and took revenge for those sixes on flat track.

With regards to Rahane, he played some stupid shots but I think any sensible person should agree that a player who has averaged 60+ in domestic cricket deserves more than just their debut to prove themselves in Test cricket.

Indian batters showed that even 250 was chasable on this track. We have 4 walking wickets in our side ATM and hence we had that first innings collapse. This time Vijay was the only guy in form to miss out on a decent score and he played a joke of a shot on that pitch. Pitch was not as bad as its being made out to be.

Batting was difficult once the ball got old. India did a good job by scoring at 6+ an over for the first 15-17 overs and reduced the deficit very quickly. Once ball got old, you could see the ball was turning square and scoring runs was difficult and India lost 3 wickets quickly after a good start.

Sachin and Rahane are in the worst form of their life and in this pitch were sitting ducks.
