This was not someone akin to Thomson, Holding, Akhtar, Lee, Waqar, Bishop, Marshall, Tait et al in pace. He was 83mph after 1986ish, when he had his knee injury. I don't act like the world didn't see Indian pacers but I am yet to hear a single opinion from anyone reputable who describes Kapil at his heydeys as military medium. They all describe him as a sharp fast bowler who was pretty quick but not brutally fast, which was the norm in the 80s. More than one have drawn comparison to Hadlee's pace and Kapil's throughout the 80s. I also happen to've seen them. And yes, Srinath was pretty damn fast. he only ever bowled truely fast in his first spell of the day, since Srinath was usually bowling 25-30 overs per innings regularly and saved himself, which those you name never had to do. But Srinath in the early 90s, when he first came on to the scene, was easily as fast as Alan Donald- back then, he was not overworked or irreperably injured and bowled flat out most of the time. You dont get to beat the likes of Donald, Rose, Akhtar, etc.on the fastest ball if you are not consistently fast yourself- I am yet to see a medium pacer who's effort ball is a good 7-8mph faster than their stock ball, so unless Srinath was truly one of a kind, he wouldn't qualify as fast-medium prior to his rotor cuff injury either.

In fact, we played really less number of tests in that time frame. He was the second quickest bowler in 1999 WC after Akhtar. He then later had a shoulder surgery which lead to loss of pace and he was rendered to fast medium from fast. Even then, he could bowl 135-140K as being shown in 2003 WC.

They hate Pakistan and in front of real Pakistanis they call themselves British. In the UK though they long home away from home etc...etc...and defend their Paki ethnicity. They are confused themselves about what they are on most days.

Marut Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Srinath wasn't always fast, but at times he was one among the fastest bowlers in the world. You could describe him as fast medium bowler bordering on fast. But he was too timid for a fast bowler, he would have had much more success without it.
cricketpitch Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Jaya was dominated by Srinath. but the one who really did dominate Srinath was deSilva. 4.41 econ and 28 average in the 90s ODI scene is 'middling performance'. Those were the days of 250 being a highly competetive score and frontline bowlers got away with 21-22 average and 3.5ish economy against the Lankans. Please point me to an Indian bowler who averaged under 25 in any form of cricket. It was normal average and economy rate for an Indian bowler. For any bowler who played considerable amount of games for India Agarkar and Kapil Dev have the best average.
