If you are basing this on a single ball in IPL or what he did in T20 in 2009, then why not ask for the team itself to be withdrawn from the tourney? As for going to England, are you assuming a few things? so why even comment if you have not read the original post? dont tell me you are one of those people who reaches conclusions only by reading the title in the tabloids. I am basing my argument on the fact that the tournament (champions trophy) is being held in June in england when the ball traditionally does a lot due to the weather. I have backed that up with the performance Raina had in the 2009 T20 world cup played in June in england where the pitches did offer a lot of seam and swing. His performance in September matter little as the weather does drastically change even in England in the space of a few months and the pitches are at their flattest by the end of August-Sept. I am not assuming anything. it was a direct question have you been to england?. However, I do have experience of what the cricketing conditions are like in England as I am born and raised in this country and have played cricket through the summer till i went to university for my high school (sixth form in the UK). The pitches at the start of the summer May-June always swung and seamed around heavily. I myself always got the bulk of my runs towards the end of the season in september. The way Johnson worked over Raina in the space of 3 balls triggered my anxiety about Raina playing in england in june. Thats all. I am not basing this simply on those 3 balls. Though we can all agree that Raina's record outside the sub in general is pretty poor. With two new balls, that sort of backs up my argument and makes Raina's job even harder.

Good player but not really dominant even in a format where he receives a lot of protection from the short pitched bowling that he is incapable of playing.

Raina has been our finisher i would like to know who of raydu, tiwary or anyone from domestic cricket can be a better ODI finisher.

Vanarp22 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 raina should play in india versus england but not in england vs england. Outside SC he is not very good even in ODIs but in the SC he was top run scorer vs england. Reserve Raina for sc and choose somebody like pujara, possibly, to replace him.

Once again let me repeat my question, whole team was clueless in that T20 WC played in June..we do not have any evidence if they have improved their game against swing, seam or short pitched bowling since then, so why not ask for Team India not to go to CT? Why focus just on Raina?

First a short ball which was played ungainly by Raina.....then a ball angling in which was played all over by raina. We could clearly see, Raina was expecting an other short ball and played on the back foot. But ideally he should have been on the front foot.

saneindian Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 God forbid if Pujara is fit to play and gets out to Morkel/Steyn in a game against DD/SR, I wonder if we will see a thread saying "Should Pujara play in SA this winter ?" considering he didn't do well there last time and doesn't seem to have improved much against quick bowling since then.

When India played the T20 world cup in England in June 2009 he flopped badly. After scoring chunk of runs in his previous ODI series it is unfair to drop him.

I assume you meant effect on future performance and not "had an effect against Johnson". Raina averaged 5 with the bat in the 2009 T20 world cup in June. Apart from Zaheer khan everybody averaged more with the bat than him.

On pitches in India we play 2 seamers and 2 spinners. Away we usually play 3 seamers and 1 spinner. so why not batsman? Is it really that inconceivable.? when the composition of the team changes home and away?

For the champions trophy considering Pujara is injured i will have Opener Opener Kohli Yuvi Dhoni Tiwary Jadeja/ Pathan
