Mariyam Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Gilchrist is doing an excellent job behind the stumps and is captaining the side well like last year. His batting is poor' date=' but he is bound to strike in 2-3 games in the season and at least he does not waste any deliveries at the top of the order like Ponting and Sangakkara.[/quote'] To be fair to Ponting, he has been an astute captain (1st match aside) and a good fielder. Yeah, but his batting leaves a lot to be desired.
Executioner Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 mathews-respect!!!! Seriously, this guy spent a lot of time in the bench last season and this time around he is captaining the side.
Square Drive Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Matthews is just a darker version of Rajat Bhatia. I would take him over Bhatia any day - at least Bhatia hits some sixes/fours. He can also win you Kingfisher Fairplay Awards (unlike Matthews - who doesn't even know whether to bat/field at the toss) - shown by the fact how he separated Gambhir-Kohli confrontation. Matthews is a burden on not just IPL but international cricket. Mathews is easily more talented and better cricketer than Thisara Perera in every aspect of the game from his school days. It's only IPL can make Perera looks class apart from Mathews. Just shows what a lopsided hit and giggle mess is this IPL :hysterical:

Just shows what a lopsided hit and giggle mess is this IPL :hysterical: Mathews pre-2013 was a an accomplished player and Thisara perera was a no-name. In recent times, perera has outperformed mathews especially with the bat. Look at the series against BD, mathews failed on most occassions

It shows the standards of SL cricket. :hysterical: :cantstop:
Tiger80 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Mathews' date=' Sanga, Mahela all out of form. They need to drop themselves.[/quote'] And why IPL teams are banking so heavily on Lankans?
Square Drive Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Forget Perera - Matthews can't even perform better than a nobody named Rajat Bhatia. It shows the standards of SL cricket. :hysterical: :cantstop: Well, that's ur cricketing knowledge. I Can't help. But maybe Bhatia should have played for India in the T20 WC and he could have prevented u from the 1st round elimination :giggle: Btw where is that Pole Vaultaty guy, and few other IPL heros now? :winky:
Square Drive Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The other thing is; there is a campaign going on in Sri Lanka by some hardcore nationalist groups against the players for betraying their country over IPL money. Even threatened that players will be attacked with rotten eggs at the airport. So especially senior players and Mathews being the current captain won't be in the right frame of mind to do their best on the field right now. Chandimal is the hero, Mathews is a betrayal for those imbeciles :--D

Before IPL, we sent our best players and won the WT20 2007. We reserve them for the world's best competition IPL. World class players like Kevin Pietersen miss the World T20 to play IPL :two_thumbs_up: . This shows the class of the tournament where the best player of Sri Lanka can't even score of Amit Mishra who is not even in the India B team. :hysterical:
maniac Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Credit to Sanga for today's move though, strengthened our batting and Captaincy :two_thumbs_up:
Jersey #10 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Shahid Afridi ... oh wait... we're definitely missing his services of biting the balls for the fast boilers
Crookbond Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Credit to Sanga for today's move though' date='strengthened our batting and Captaincy :two_thumbs_up:[/quote'] Exactly - Sangakkara has proved that the best strategy to play SL players is to not play them. :two_thumbs_up:
Square Drive Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Also, if Sanga and Mahela played as openers throughout all the IPL editions consistently like Sachin, they would have produced much more match winning innings in that period. Mahela especially good at utilizing the fielding restrictions. But they always dropped themselves down the order to accommodate other batsmen unlike some other selfish batsmen who continuously failing match after match but still eating up a precious opening slot of another capable batsman How many foreign players have to sacrifice their IPL careers trying to accommodate that poor T20 batsmen
