Texy Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 - Seismometer in Amarillo measured 2.1 from the fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX 400 mi away - EPA paperwork stated that there were 54,000 lbs of anhydrous ammonia on hand and no risk of explosion - The FAA has put a no-fly zone into effect 3 miles around West and below 3,000 feet - 6-7 fire fighters cannot be accounted for and are assumed dead - 1 police officer died in the blast - Director of West EMS believes there are 60-70 dead - 50-75 homes and businesses completely destroyed - 2 - 12,000 gallon permanent storage tanks of anhydrous ammonia were on site - Nearby nursing home has collapsed with residents trapped inside Explosion caught on video (WARNING: Turn down the vol) ROrpKx3aIjA
CSK Fan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Seems like the plant might have caught fire, and while the fire brigade guys were dousing it, they watered the ammonia containers stored there which caused the 2nd huge blast

cowboysfan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 this is a sad tragedy.Waco has seen some big ones in the past,anybody remember the the branch davidian cult fire? i think almost 100 people died there too.
